Anyone running the big XFI cam?
Anyone running the big XFI cam?
I want to know what this cam runs like, how is the power with it from what I have read the lobes are redesigned and work very well with fuel injection. Thinking of using this cam with ported heads, to replace my 306 comp
im not using it, but i know a guy (indirectly) who is running the 468 (i believe the biggest XFI cam) and he loves it. He replaced his 847 w/ it and said it is much more street friendly, with a little bit noticable power up top.
Yes, I'm running the largest Comp XFI cam and I really like it (power band and overall performance)! Also, I have the beehive (918s) springs, Crane 1.6 RRs, w/ Crane performance HP roller lifters and custom length 3/8" push rods.
My car currently runs in the 11.30s w/ some launch problems (3.73s & small 26" ET streets). I'm changing to a 12-bolt w/ 4.30s and larger 28" x 11.50 slicks for next season. With the upgrades I hope to be in the 10.90s.
PM me if you have additional questions about the XFI. I think the XFI is a great cam choice!

i have the xfi280 and i like it.. it makes tons of power up top, i couldn't tell you about the bottom end cause i have a 4k stall with 4.57's so i don't ever see any of it.. but i think its too small for my setup.. or what i want from my car.. its a great cam with good manners though... sounds wicked too..
I have a 4500 stall and 4.57
I'm just going to go to a custom grind....I was wondering how the lobes compaired
I read somewhere it was a redesigned lobe
But i'm thinking its redesigned to do good on the street and work good overall

No sound clips, but it sounds like a "full race" cam (really intimidates everyone in the No-E street class) and runs like one also (low 11s). With a gear and slick change and some minor weight reduction I hope to be in the 10.90s this season.

that was with hooker long tubes and a mufflex (flowmaster)single/single 4". its now alot quieter with a 3" single/single flowmaster system.. i can hear myself think now. not a real big sotp change though the drop in pipe size.
Everything seems to be working correctly with the XFI cam in my 396 stroker (peak RPM, power band, Etc.). Along with the XFI cam I used the Comp 918 beehives, Crane HP lifters, 1.6 RRs and 3/8" custom push-rods.
Brian Herter did the tuning and everything seems "spot on" with the shift points and overall performance (consistant low 11s). Also, I still have to install the Racetronix (Walbo) fuel pump which should further improve the performance.
Additionally, I didn't want to turn 7K, or over with my stroker, so the XFI makes the power in the RPM range I wanted.

I'm interested. Can you look on your cam card and see what springs it recommends for that cam? The lobe catalog says they're made for the beehive springs, but the cam catalog recommends the 26986 spring which is a dual valve spring which has a slightly higher spring rate, but less overall travel (lift).
