Anyone put a cat on mufflex y? I'm backfiring

Well, i finished up installing the jethot headers, and now I'm hearing some backfire. It happens when i slow down (not necessarily as soon as I let off the gas), and also backfires every couple of seconds while in Park. Do you think putting the converter after the ypipe will help with the back fire? If anyone has added the converter with the mufflex ypipe, where did you put it. I was looking up under the car and there doesn't seem that there will be any room. Thanks.

It is backfireing or popping ?

The car needs a certain amount of backpressure maybe that is part of the problem

I guess it'd be popping. Like you said, I'm guessing that it is probably lack of backpressure but I'm not entirely sure.

I went around looking for some leaks, and I found a spot where the the guy didn't weld it completely shut. The picture is of the leak I'm talking about. Could this possibly be causing it.

I wouldn't think lack of backpreassure would cause backfiring. Many people do just fine without having a cat. Maybe you're running really rich, or an O2 sensor is screwed, or maybe the leak would cause it. ????
I had an exhaust shop build me a custom y-pipe, and put a cat on the end of it. It cost $300 total, which included the high flow cat. (The y-pipe alone was $120)

Well, I got the problem fixed. I went to the exhaust shop, had them weld the holes shut, and when I was leaving, the car was still popping, so I wasn't very happy. I was also noticing that the car was idling very well, so when I got back, checked the plugs, and one was cracked. Replaced that, and now it's good to go, so I'm happy

Thats a pretty nice looking Y pipe brainhart, looks like it left you a considerable amount of ground clearance too. Good job to the exhaust guy.
