No, I dont mean butchering it, I mean bore it out...I have access to a machine shop, and wonder if it's all that hard to do. I dont see how boring it is hard, just making the butterflies correctly. Anybody have experience doing this? I was thinking 52mm, but have heard of people running 54's.

I wouldn't go mroe than 53mm... It just gets too damn thin for my likings.

You can use a gasket as a template to get a perfect 52mm...

why would you need a template?

52mm=2.047inches
just mic it, as for location you just pic the center of your old bore with an indicator.

simple stuff, i was thinking of doing this myself but wasn't sure how difficult it would be to dissassemble the TB and make new butterflies. the boring and poilishing is the easy part.
