anyone out there with a carbed eng. in a 4 gen?

Im about to start a project that involves replacine a v6 powertrain with a small block chevy old school 350 and th350 and just wanted to see some pic.s and get any info/advice on doin the swap. we've got full bmr suspension incl. a bmr kmember, th350 torque arm/tranny crossmember, fuel pump, exh. all that. just specifically wanting info on dealing with the cowl area and clearance for the distr. and carb. so if you got any pics or anything you can pass on, email me or post here.
thanks.

Re: anyone out there with a carbed eng. in a 4 gen?

I just got the motor sitting in the car last weekend. I, like you, went the bmr k member route and it was worth it. The install was easy and it makes working on the motor much simpler. As far as firewall clearance is concerned, be ready to do some cutting and pray that you bought a short enough distributor. There is a layer of sheetmetal above where the distributor and carb will sit that has to be removed. Cutting that out will give you an extra 2-2.5" of clearance under there. You might need to trim up the area in front of the wiper assembly to clearance for the carb. I will try to post pics this weekend when I get back from school.

btw, what does your motor setup look like? Also, have you figured out what you are going to do about the gauges: speedo, tach, water temp, oil pressure, etc? I haven't come up with any good ideas other than taking out the stock gauge cluster and making a new one. I'm curious to see what other people come up with.

Hopefully this weekend I'll be able to get my th350 in and get the front of the motor put on.

What length driveshaft are you going to use?

well first this isnt my car. its a customer. I do lots of side jobs at home to help support my own car mods.

anways, Im gonna reuse as many of the stock gauges as we can. I havent looked at the wiring diagram yet so Im not sure what I will be able to use. worst case scenario is new gauge cluster w/all new gauges. anyway you look at it its gonna be a pita. ohwell. Im looking forward to any pics you can send me. we plan on measuring the driveshaft after its in. ea. manufacturer will have there own way of measureing, Id give them a call. I do have a couple diff. shafts sitting around here that I can maybe try just to simplify the measureing.
right now the eng. is just a long block. no accessories. he's buying a kit from march or something like it. any ideas what acc. brackets will fit?

You might search for SCCA American Sedan cars. They are all required to run carb'ed 305 SBC's. They usually notch the cowl, and use a small cap HEI.
