Anyone know what this is? I've dropped three engines out of three fbodies and I've only seen it on '95 LT1s vehicles. My 94 v6 car (now v8) did not have this.
It's a black plastic looking canister that's bolted to the bottom of the front frame by the splash guard. There's two vacuum nozzles on it but only one vacuum nozzle is open - the other is closed off. Nothing runs to it, and there's no other plugs in it.
In one car I had wrapped the chain around the frame and didn't realize I wrapped it around this canister and when we raised the whole body of the car up it crushed the canister into pieces so I was able to see it's completely hollow with nothing in it.
Can't find anything about it on shbox's front devices diagram, don't even know where to start looking because like I said there's nothing hooked up to it - just some random canister.

Rob, I love your site, but damn do I never find anything until I post here that I can't find it.
Guess it makes it harder to find when ya have no clue what it's called, though.
Well that blows. Completely obliterated one and the other car i found it just sitting on top of the splash guard with all the bolt holes broken off. Weird part is neither of them had the vacuum line hooked up to it.
Edit: Looked through some pictures that I took of my trans cooler that I mounted to the splash guard and I see that my 94 v6 did infact have it... amazing we didn't damage it when we had the chains wrapped around that area.

Edit x2: If the vacuum canister isn't hooked up to the vacuum line, wouldn't that be introducing a vacuum leak into the engine as well or is there a check valve in place so the vacuum only affects the HVAC system?
