Anyone have side exit exhaust (in front of back tires)
My 96 Z has pacesetter LT's right now running texas speed's 3" true dual x-pipe system that has turndowns right before the rear axle. I love the sound of the exhaust but I hate how it looks under the car. It's my dream for the car to have true duals with an x-pipe with the exhaust exiting right in front of the back tires with some cool oval tips. Anyone out there do this to their car or know anyone who has? I need some help. Thanks.

I wonder if it sounds a lot different without a x-pipe. I know you'd lose power by doing that, which I dont want. Do you know if there's anyone out there that sells a system like the one I'm looking for?
Re: Anyone have side exit exhaust (in front of back tires)
That's my car in the above link. Ever since the install I've been meaning to add an h-pipe, but have never gotten around to it. It would definitely sound better with an h or x pipe - sometimes I get kind of a chugging sound, only hearing 1 bank when driving.
Car is down for a rebuild now. When the exhaust goes back on it will still be side exit, but I'll probably add an h-pipe and pull the car chemistry mufflers and cutouts off, in favor of a couple of bullets. The CC mufflers ending up more restrictive than I thought.

Re: Anyone have side exit exhaust (in front of back tires)
I have it right now... it's too quiet for me due to the 90* turns to exit infront of the rear wheels. I'm hoping to re-do it later this summer a little differently with some new stainless tips as well.
Re: Anyone have side exit exhaust (in front of back tires)
BTW, I had to oval the tips a bit and point them slightly upwards to get them to tuck close to the body, since my frame connecters are a little lower than most. Of course, if you are not running frame connectors, or are running a set that doesn't hang down much, you might not have those problems.
Re: Anyone have side exit exhaust (in front of back tires)
Did you guys bend all the pipes yourself? Cuz the custom exhaust shops around here wont do anything like this kind of exhaust because there will be no cats and its illegal to exit there on cars with a back seat i guess. So I guess I'm going to have to do it myself, which kind of sucks. My only hope is to either find a place that sells a kit like this or to get some schematics/pictures of it underneath from you guys. Any help appreciated. Thanks
Re: Anyone have side exit exhaust (in front of back tires)
I would just be afraid to start bending pipes myself. I know that I'd screw it up somehow and end up costing myself a bunch of money and aggravation. Someone out there must make some kind of kit like this.
Re: Anyone have side exit exhaust (in front of back tires)
I just bought 4 90* mandrel bends, and 4 45* Mandrel Bends... used 2 90*'s and made the X-Pipe, and just used the other bends to fab the rest.
The next one I'm going to build I'm just going to get 2 45*s and 2 90's... Use the 45's to get the exhaust heading twords the X, then through the X, then diagonally out the sides. Should be loud as hell... Just how I like it.

I would like to see some pics of you standing back from the car aways. For some reason I just picture these pipes hanging way down and looking odd and out of place.
Re: Anyone have side exit exhaust (in front of back tires)
Look on the net and find the pancake tips like Nascar. Several exhaust Companies have them.
Leave your x and run the pipes however they need to be to exit where you want. If necessary get the oval tuging for clearance.
If ya tell them it's a race car they may do it or get a speed shop to do it.

There are a couple pics of mine during the fab process and off the car for the final welding. There are tips added after the 90* bends to get the exhaust out from under the car.
