Anyone have a problem after they installed a Walbro fp w/o the bucket?
I read a lot of posts about using/not using the bucket in a walbro install but have not read any posts about anyone having a problem after they didn't use the plastic bucket.
Anyones walbro burn up or fail early because they didn't use the bucket?
If you have installed a walbro pump w/o the bucket how long has it run so far?
I am trying to decide on useing the bucket are not. thanks alan

thanks but no thanks. lol i have read most all posts about this topic and can almost recite word for word what Jack will post. The question i am asking is has anyone had any trouble with the pump after the install. its easy to say what might happen, i would like to know what has happened.
It looks like a lot of people have done this mod and no one has said they have had a problem with it so far. I know someone has run out of gas at least once since the install? Anyways Jack don't want to talk to me because I am gonna cut a hole in my car!
I have not taken my old pump out yet but looking at all the pics i have seen i still don't understand how you will get air in the pump if you cut a hole in the bucket. It only sucking fuel from the bottom of the pump which has a sock that is not in the bucket right? I have done a lot of mods to my car and most aftermarket suff has to be modified anyway
And for the hole in the car, if its like all the older camaros i have had in the past the hole over the tank want be as big as the holes in the floor boards after a few more years anyway.lol
If no one has had any problems w/o the bucket than why should I? Alan

If you're going to cut a hole...here's a good link (this is my car and my guide.

I have no bucket but I have ran out of gas once gauge said around 8th of a tank but I am used to driving my 3rd gen which I cut a whole in both cars for the pump install. but I can run the 91 on e for a while but the 95 I fill up before it gets to an 8th of a tank.. other than that no problems at all.
Well...I might be one of the select few that has had a terrible time with it...w/out using the bucket
When mine gets below half tank, and while making a right hand turn, it will starve for fuel BADLY and my gas gauge will go from 3/4 - 1/4 and back again when going around curves...
I intend on pulling it back out this spring, using the bucket or possibly just buying a stock replacement....this really sucks

to be or not to be without a bucket
I have been driving for 6k without any problems...
I've driven up and down steep hills and sharp curves (routes 66, 28 and 219 in PA and Freeway 68 in MD) with no problems. Nice drive especially while doing 2k RPM (70 to 80 MPH) and one can hear popcorn!!!! life is good.
Just to check the adjusted fuel float arm, I have refilled twice with 15.0 and at another time with 15.3 gals (and the manuals state only 14.7 gals to top off these tanks. Seems the fuel/vapor expansion canister is now my auxilary fuel tank---funny huh? No fuel fumes or leaks exist either. (I carry now a 1 gal fuel tank for emergencies)
I agree about the air issue you mentioned---it goes not make any sense since the "intake port" is outside the original bucket anyway. I think the bucket is only used to keep the pump submerged for cooling effects...
Happy trails
