Anyone have a MSD 6al bite the dust?

my wife and i decided to take the Z out last night when we went to dinner. we were driving down the road about 45mph and the car suddenly died. i coasted into a parking lot and checked some things out. i thought the opti was toast at first because i had the happen once before. i checked the coil wire, no problem there. reset the pcm, no help. so i disconnected the MSD box and just bypassed it and went back to the stock coil. then the car started perfect. i worked all day today and haven't had a chance to check the wires on the MSD box to see if any of them came loose or anything but just out of curiosity has anyone had something similar happen with an aftermarket ignition?

Between myself and all of my friends who all have used 6AL boxes in various vehicles, I am the only one to ever have one fail.

It was in a 71 K5 Blazer that 5 seconds prior I had driven through about 3 feet of mud. I unplugged the pigtail that I had installed and hooked the coil back to the dist. Played for about another hour and drove home.

So yeah it was my fault

I've read reports of aftermarket ign systems failing. I guess it goes with the territory. If its an electronic device it is subject to failure.

I've had an MSD6a in my daily driver p/u for 6+ years. I've had an MSD Digital 6 in my Camaro for about 5 years. Knock on wood, both have performed well, although the 1990 truck showed the biggest improvement over stock.

Hmmm, to be honest when I installed the MSD I felt a difference in the way the car drove. But I took it out last night on the freeway and gave it a couple of hard runs and the car felt stronger without the MSD. So who knows. My other question is can MSD repair these at a reasonable cost?

I believe the cost is not a lot if it is not under warranty. Check info on their website for service.
