any help on this one would be GREATLY appreciated! I have a 94Z and I have noticed that in the past 2 weeks I have had an on again off again tapping or thumping sound coming from the rear of the car. It seems that when I am going around 35-45 you hear this bump, bump, bump, sound that sounds like is coming from the passenger side rear end of the car. It is a rythmatic thumping. If I am only giving a little squeeze of gas it still does it but as soon as I let off the accelerator it instantly quits. When I get back on the gas a little it will start doing it again! The car has around 125,000 on it. If I don't figure out what could be causing this I will more than likely wreck soon as I spend more time driving looking in the back seat of the car than I do looking ahead while trying to solve this little mystery..... The car also has a little whine to it when you give it the gas and it comes from the rear but as above as soon as you let off the gas it quits. I have heard this is common and it has done this a while but this dang thump, thump, thump, is starting to drive me a little crazy! Anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

 

First I would check tranny mount, then I would change your gear oil to see if you see anything up with the gears.

 

transmission mount is going bad

u-joints are going bad

bushings on lower control arms may be worn
