Anyone ever used ARP Assembly Lube when putting together the lower end?

I used ARP assembly lube that I ordered from Summit. I used this on my last motor I believe as well. Its a silver colored substance, and I used it on my main and rod bearings, and on the rod bearings I used about half a drop of cam lube as well.

What is you guys opinion on it, I used just enough to cover the surface of the bearing. Anyone know?

I personally use old school STP, fact is most assembly lube and STP taste exactlly the same, except Comps and it has kind of a chemical cherry flavor to it.

IMO there is no such thing as too much assemble lube, whichever one you use. Make sure you lube the side of the rods on the big end as well. And liberal amounts on the rear main bearing sides as well

Hey, could you check my other post, I need to know if between .002 and .003 is okay for the gap between the thrust bearing and the crank on the front side of the rear main bearing.

BTW- I didnt put any on the sides, can I just put a lil on there now that it is installed?

Also, this stuff wasnt like a oil, it was a silver-ish color. Said on the back that it can be used for ARP bolts or as an assembly lubricant.

That thurst seems acceptable. If it is tight getting that in then it is most likely in the 1 1 1/2 range.
Yeah get some lube on the side of the rods and the thrust surface of the rear bearing. The rods as you can see with the mototor apart do rub each other. If nothing else por some motor oil over the rod ends if you alread have it together. Same with the thrust surface of rear main. And same with timing chain. That is whay i like STP cause that carp will stick to anything
good luck

I think the arp stuff you are using is like a anti-seize / torquue compound for liek head, rod and main bolts, make sure you give those a little shot of lube as well so you get accurate torque readings.

Re: Anyone ever used ARP Assembly Lube when putting together the lower end?

I just read this off their website, kinda scares me now. I think I might pull it back apart, but I am afraid that it might be up in the oiling holes on the rods and stuff.

ARP assembly lubes are ultra-consistent, premium grade moly based lubricants with a rust and corrosion inhibitors. They have effective lubrication ranges from -30 to 750 degrees F, with load ranges of 500,000 psi. With these lubes, you can get exact torque readings because of the reduced friction. These are primary assembly lubes formulated for engine components/fasteners, press fitting, gear trains, and general machinery. They are not recommended for use on rotating components.

Am I screwed, why would they not recommend it? If I only turned the crank about 10-15 times do you think I have damaged the bearings, or if I pull it apart, use some STP and put it back together do you think I'll be fine?

Basically by that description they are telling you it is high end grease, kind like wheel bearing grease. If you are not to far into assembly i would pull it apart and put some free flowing assembly lube on it, be it STP (walmart is still open) or assemble lube in the little bottles like comp and crane send with a cam kit.

I have a bottle of the Comp Cams Pro Cam Lube. If I pull the rod caps, and then pull the main caps, put some of the cam lube in there, and bolt up the mains and bolt of the rods, do you think I'll be alright?

Comp has 2 lubes as i recall, both taste like sh**, one is a real thin almost like oil and the other is imagine this, the consistancy of stp. If it is the thicker one i think you will be just fine. I would definately prelube the engine before you put on the intake. Maybe 2-3 quarts of oil in the oil pan and spin the oil pump drive shaft with something on a drill motor untill you se oil squirting in th motor. Oh yeah fill up your oild filter with oil befor installing it be it for prelube or otherwise.
What i use for a prelube spinner in my drill, and dont laugh, is a 3/8 wood paddle bit with the tip broke off. Works like a champ.

You think I should take out the beaings and clean them or do you think just putting in the lube is fine?

No real need to clean them completly just get them well lubed. Dont hold back on the lube, play like you are at a swingers party with 14 playboy modles and no other men left on earth and you are squeezing out KY jelly!!! you get the idea... plenty of lube

lucas oil treatment works great too. just pull the rod caps and main caps off, clean up the surfaces with a lint free rag and then use an applicle assembly lube.

WHY THE HECK are you tasting all these assembly lubes 944v8inDFW??? lol
