I know they had clearance problems before, but, wondering if any one worked it out?

Yep.

My roomate bought a 97 ss that was a theft recovery with no motor/trans and stuffed a MTI H/C LS1 in it. He had to change the K-member, the rack & pinion and used an LT1 style CAI on it. A 1LE intake elbow for LT1s fits a stock LS1 throttle body perfectly. The only other things he had to do to get it running was run return style fuel rails in place of the original LS1 rails and of course to install a wiring harness from an LS1 car in place of the original. The car runs great now, and surprises alot of people when the hood is open

we're in the process of doing that to my brothers 96 Trans Am.
the entire car is using LS1 body, engine, and dash wiring, so it's basically a 98 LS1 car in a 96 Body.

Yep, my buddy has a '94 Z-28 convertible with a LS6 in it (actually I think it is an LS1 with LS6 H/C/I, he also converted to a T56 while he was doing the engine swap, had someone in Anderson, IN modify his wiring harness to work with the LS-series. He had to replace his k-member and used the LTx cai too, as stated above.

There's a guy in my area that has a 94 or 95 with an LS-1 in it. I don't know much other than that, but yes, it's been done.

LT1 car should really be cake. you have to see my friend Tims' 383 LS1 H/C/I T56 Miata. 420rwhp/430rwtq in a 2700lbs car. I rode in it at the last auto-x we had here. oh man was that a fun ride.

if i remember correctly...there is more room under the STB on my LS1 than there was on my LT1...and it's the same piece...swapped cars.

why would there be a clearance issue??

Why would you do this in the first place? Why not buy an ls1. If you dont like the looks, swap the front ends. Am i missing something?

In my brothers case, it was cheaper. Sold the LT1/trans/exhaust for $2400, bought the LS1 longblock for $200, forged internals for $750, MMS heads for $1100,
longtubes, harnesses, cluster, and all misc little parts, $300
LS6 intake and ported TB for $200
4L60E for $200
Yank 4400 converter for $500 (brand new from Yank).

So, for less than $1500, he has a 430rwhp LS1 setup with no miles on the motor. HP numbers are based on the heads/cam setup from the car that the heads/cam setup came from.

For those that have pulled it off, what do you guys do with your choice of headers? Would it be anymore difficult to run long tubes considering the 93-97 floorpans were different to those of the 98-02s

Well...in my roomates case, he got a smokin deal on a theft recovery 97 SS that was complete other than the missing motor/trans. He figured what better time to make it an LS1? Some people like to have something unique, and if thats not your taste, thats fine. Not to mention he ended up with a 441rwhp SS for dirt cheap by doing it that way.

Pacesetter Longtubes for 98+ F-bodies work without a hitch. No clearance probs at all

Actually, that was my original question way back when I had my first LT1.

I was already ahead of that answer by a few days, lol.
