Anyone ever experienced this with their Tranny?

He Guys...

This is kind of strange...

One day I go out...fire up the Z (6 speed)and drive down the road and then notice that I can't get into 5th gear...

The only way to get into the gear is to RAM it in very hard...therefore, I've been just bypassing 5 all together...either leave it in 4 or go directly to 6...

Anyone ever experienced this? What could it be...

Other than that the tranny is holding up fine....

Thanks,

T...

if it was just 5th gear, i would guess the synchros but i am not sure. if it was the slave or master cylinder it would not want to go into other gears also. how many miles are on the tranny?

mine did that a while ago but i couldnt get it out of 5th and when i finally got it out it would go in and then not into 6th. i had to get all my synchros replaced and my 6th gear. plrobably just your synchros though.

Tranny has over 140K on it...

From what I can see...most places charge $500 to rebuild this tranny plus parts...

Is all of this necessary if I just need to replace a syncro...

Also...
I'm thinking of Beefing up my car here in the near future...wouldn't it be better to just replace the tranny with a better version? however...I have not checked the prices for tougher trannies yet...

the t-56's in these cars are pretty strong. quite a few people are running 450-500 HP on their stock tranny's. if i was doing synchros, i would probally have them all replaced with those kind of miles on it. your right, the labor will not be cheap. also, the synchros won't just be a few dollars either.

Thanks for the reply...

It seems that my best option would be to eventually just rebuild my stock tranny...

Thanks,
