Anyone ever attempt an LT5 conversion?
Ah, the ol' roomate who's Brothers, Cousins, Uncles, Grand whomever owns a spectacular car that you never see or will never hear about because you never come into contact with this mystical relative or thier fantasy car....yeah...get's tiring after a while. If I hear one more story about someones uncle who owns a Viper I'm going to shoot myself.

.....besides its nothing to go shooting yourself about......
complaining about what may be BS that spouts from my roomate's mouth has little relavence concerning this thread...............that similarly lacks relevence as well
Here's something I did actaully see! someone put some sort of DOHC heads on an lt1 (maybe lt5 heads? don't know) at a car show once, it was externally run off crank through a chain for each set of heads. expensive, probably. anyone seen aything like this before? it was a 69 camaro of some sort that was red.

i believe those heads you are refering to are donovan heads....very expensive. there is an impala ss with the LT5 conversion, tim allen's i believe. there is also an impala ss with a donovan motor setup that is incredible, but kept eating 4l80's up, a dyno was done before the last tranny blew....some 700-800 rear-wheel horsepower on a DETUNED donovan motor.....i'll have to dig up the article.
ZR1 motor was designed jointly by GM and Lotus. Built by Mercury Marine in Stillwater, OK. The key switch under the CD player is a valet switch that limits the power to about 300HP. The 385HP ZR1s actually weighed about 100-150lbs less than the 405HP versions, so there was really no performance difference between any of the ZR1s. And having owned a C4 and a Z06, I personally would take the ZR1 over a Z06.
To the question of fitting one in an f-body, I really don't know if it would actually fit. Remember the C4 has more underhood space due to the clamshell style hood. I think you might run into problems with it hitting the strut towers.

My understanding was that the valet key kicked the power down to more like 210hp.
In addition to having 4 valves per cyl, there are also 2 intake runners and 2 injectors per cylinder. There is also a kind of dual-stage throttle body with a small, maybe 3/4 inch primary bore that opens before the two larger butterflies begin to open.
When the valey key is turned, 1/2 the runners and 1/2 the injectors shut down, limiting horsepower. The dual stage throttle body is probably for easy/smooth throttle tip-in when going from idle so you don't break the tires lose every time you take off.
