Is anyone else's gas Gauge off ?

When I fill it up it goes a 1/4 tank full abouve the FULL mark. And then the only time it sems accurate is when I have 1 gallon left to get to the station (actually about a quarter tank left). Anyone know what it entails to fix this ?

Buy another car.

The tank is a V shape so the gas goes quicker as it gets empty.
No way I know of to fix it, it annoys the hell out of me too.
I just fill it up when it gets to half.
If I don,t I have to start lookin for a gas station at a quarter tank cause I know it will be gone soon.

everyones gas gauge does this...funny, we have the technology to send rockets into space, but they still can't get a gas tank gauge accurate?

haha, I agree. I've noticed this problem, and a few of my buddies have also mentioned this at one point or another. I don't see it as a really big deal, but it can be annoying at times, since it does seem to get to the "E" mark rather quickly... but that may be because of my driving....

Funny this topic was brought up...I had to walk home yesterday because I ran out of gas in my 95 Z28! The needle was just above the 'E', but I figured it would be enough to make it to the gas station (just like in my Tahoe and IROC).

Damn was I wrong!

Yes, our gas gauges SUCK!

Mine use to work pretty well then about a month ago it started reading way over full when full and I got to half a tank after 260 miles and thought "Wow, that old cat must have really been restritive cause look at my milage now!" but then I sucked up the other "half" in about 50 miles and ran out of gas. Now I make sure to fill up at a quarter of a tank.

It's not that they don't have the technology to make it work. I garuntee they do, but the mother beetches at GM are too f'in stingy.

I ran out of gas a couple times in a 93 z I had. Once was in my driveway so no big deal... next time was on a highway ramp, but had enough to get moving and make it to a gas station a 1/4 mile down the road. I was a little worried to say the least.

When is the tank completely empty in your cars? I'mn having trouble with mine now and the gas guage is maybe an 1/8" pass the E mark, maybe I'm almost out of gas?

It's funny. I remember reading that GM did a study and actually made the gas gauges so that they were correct, but people didn't like it because they like to see the gas gauge at full for a longer period of time. When the gas gauge was correct, people were all upset because they didn't like seeing the gas gauge go down so soon.

wow talk about a messed up reason to change something like that...

FYI for those of you who like running your tank near E...don't. Thats how I burned up my last pump, and you don't want to know how much of a pain it is to replace them (the fuel pump uses gas to cool it). I never go below 1/4 tank now.
