Okay, I've secured the spare tire and jack to where they do not move at all. I even padded them with a towel to make sure no metal was touching metal. I took everything out of my trunk and drove around. I still get this constant rattle back there and I can't figure it out. Is it possible for the hatchback to be loose and shaking around? Has anyone successfully stopped the rattle?

I fixed the squeaky dash and console. All I want to hear is my music and my flowmaster. Please help me out.

 

Mine does the exact same thing, but I just deal with it. The joys of having one of these cars.

 

Try wraping electrical tape around the posts where the back seat snaps into the upright position.Take her for a spin and see if this helps.It's a common situation.Second,get a socket set,try moving the hatch latch down a bit from it's present location,and close the hatch,and see if this does the trick.If you have the dreaded pass seat belt rattle,take some bailing wire,wrap a few turns around the base of the seat belt where it connects to the floor until it's preety tight,but still loose enough to move around.If all else fails,crank up the stereo with Deep purple(highway star).He he.Hope this helps.

 

Almost forgot,when you raise the hatch,you can see two black hex plastic things on the underside of the hatch.I put greese on the bottom of these,but vasileen may work.Some members have tried unscrewing them up or down,but that didn't work for me.My02

Hey. I had the same problem in the back of my T/A. And my bro-in-law '94 Z28 did the same. Is it a hollow knocking sound? Because that was what mine was. It is caused from where good 'ol GM doesn put a rubber O ring on the rear springs and when the spring compresses it will turn slightly thus making a noise.

The Fix: Get the car on a lift and look for some silicone spray, then spray the bottom of the base where the spring would sit. Then let the car sit and dry for like a day or two and then drive it. That fixed mine. I didnt do this my self. I took it to my frined who own the Midas in town and they did it for me. Hope that helps!

P.S From the factory GM puts some silicone spray on theses springs but over time it drys off.

I was going to say, wrap some electrical tape around the trunk latch and the little nibs where the rear seats latch on. Also, unscrew those two rubber black stops in the hatch... I have 2 15's back there so if I don't want to hear anything I can just turn it up =) I'm curious if this not having a lower spring seat affects anything.

 

Thats funny because mine does that too and Ive been trying to figure out what the hell it is too. I think it is the hatchback, I just turn up my bass on my system, it drowns it out pretty well.

 

I have the same problem and I was starting to get worried until I read this post, lately I have just been opening my cutout that sits where my cat used to be and that solves the problem....

 

If its a tapping/clunking/rattling sound when you go over a bump its likely the trunk hatch... I had this exact problem, i adjusted the rubber spacers so they'd hold the trunk a bit higher up, and fixed no more knocking over bumps! Try pushing the bumper up and down a few times to replicate the rattleling, just bounce it till you can find out where....

 

You can get rubber isolators for the top of the rear coil springs,Put on later models I've been told ,but that only cures the sqeeking(like going over speed bumbs for me)Otherwise I just spray wd40 way up to the top of the rear coil springs.But that doesn't keep the rattling down I don't think.Hope this helps.

 

Yea that is what i am talking about the F-bodies not having a coil spring seat. I dont know what kind of spray it is but i will try to find out, b/c now mine doesnt do it at all. It is VERY annoying. But i am sure that any silicone spray will work but i will find out hopefully tommorrow(06/25/03). And i will post back.

 

Check where your exhaust hooks into the back-end of your car...that's probably where the vibrating is coming from and there's not a lot you can do about it...

 

Removing the spare tire and jack saves 38 lbs.,according to my bathroom scale.Hope this helps.(Autoclub member).

 

I am not sure what your problem is, but I will tell you what fixed mine.

I keep both of my back seat belts buckled at all times because they always seem to find thier way over to rattle on something plastic somewhere back there.

Also, I put heavy duty tie wraps/ zip ties /wire ties whatever you want to call them on the exhaust hangers. There is an "L" shaped hanger on both sides that connects to the tail pipes on one side of the "L". The other side of the "L" hooks into a rubber hanger. On my car the "L" would move inside of the rubber a lot. It made a noise there alone. Not to mention the noises it made when this movement was enough to cause the exhaust to hit somewhere. I just attached the hanger to the rubber very firmly. There is still plenty of give because of the rubber. Just no rattle
