Anybody Sell HiFlow Cats for 96 Dual Cat Z28?
Anybody Sell HiFlow Cats for 96 Dual Cat Z28?
Anybody knows who sells hiflow cats for the 96 dual cat system? I've looked at our vendors and see that they sell replace cats for 93-95 single cat cars. I'm guessing it's the big "coffee can" on the driver side that's hard to replace. I've seem some completed y-pipes with hiflow cats, but anybody just sell drop in replacement hiflow cats?
Re: Anybody Sell HiFlow Cats for 96 Dual Cat Z28?
Random Technology....
Thunderracing has them....
$379 for Aluminzied & $605 for Stainless
Direct replacement from the Manifiold to any old Cat Back
EDIT: Re-read your post & realized that you want only the Cats... That doesn't work in our cars, as you know that big ol coffee can is just impossible to repalce without changing the Y-Pipe

Re: Anybody Sell HiFlow Cats for 96 Dual Cat Z28?
Sorry..I didn't mean the entire cat back system.
I'm looking at the actual catalytic converter. I see that Random Technology sells the y-pipe with hiflow cats, but does anyone sell just the hi-flow cat to replace the stock ones. I see people sell them for the LS1 and the single cat LT1s...but don't see directly replacements for the 2-cat LT1s.
I'm sure someone's got to sell them?

No one makes em.
However you can get universal ones and probably have them welded in the stock locations.

There's a pic of a dual cat replacement pipe they sell and it looks like it's made with universal style cats.

It's actually quite nice, and for $400 it's basically the price of the 2 Cats...
But yeah GL finding Direct Replacement Cats alone
Re: Anybody Sell HiFlow Cats for 96 Dual Cat Z28?
I had the Random pipe with SLP shorties before I put in my longtubes and supercharger.
That setup worked great however strictly speaking, the random pipe isn't legal in CA because it moves the driver side cat.
The idea is that the closer the cat is to the engine the sooner it will warm up and work properly.
It's pretty **** though (what do you expect from bureaucrats) as the random pipe has both cats where the passenger side one is or where a single cat goes on the pre 96(95 in CA) cars.
I recall the factory setup had an almost unpleasant reverb coming off the pedal.
I'm glad I just have to pass an obd2 scan here in buffalo for the first time since I bought my car 4 years ago.
95 and older obd1's are exempt here from any emissions tests.

Those prices are for a Random Catback muffler and pipes.
I believe the dual cat pipe is 550.00 and available as aluminized steel only.
Mine had some flake rust after 3 years.
I somehow scored one of the cats on a rock or something and it stopped working.
Welding in a new cat to a slightly rusty aluminized pipe where the pipes enter and exit at angles seemed like asking for leak and fit trouble.
I got my longtubes and sold the pipe to someone who gutted the cats and used O2 simms.
Sold the SLP shorties to a bro in CA where CARB numbers are necessary.
Although the random cat casings are warrantied for 5 years, the cats working are guaranteed for only 2 years vs 7 years for the factory ones.
Overall the Random pipe though expensive is a beautiful piece of mandrel bent work that bolts on easy if you heat up the manifold bolts and fits like a dream with great ground clearance.

These would work really well. They are very reasonably priced and come in 3 inch also.

Re: Anybody Sell HiFlow Cats for 96 Dual Cat Z28?
Thanks guys for the feedback. I'll give Pypes and Summit a call tomorrow. That Summit one looks promising...I'm assuming Catco also makes a similiar one for the passenger side replacement...would like to keep the flow balanced on both sides. I think the passenger side is pretty straight forward...it's that funky driver side that doesn't look easily replaceable.
I like that Random Tech one..but it's just pricey...looks good though. I am worried about being smog legal
Having said that, why not get LTs you ask....well, I figure I have a better chance passing inspection by showing I have 2 cats as opposed to saying LTs are stock. Besides, I spent all that time getting the SLP shorties installed.

Re: Anybody Sell HiFlow Cats for 96 Dual Cat Z28?
Okay...another question. I'm not familiar with Catco...are these any good? They are high flow cats, right? I don't want just stock replacements. There's nothing wrong with my current ones...pass smog no issues...just trying to get better flow to get a few horses here and there. I have headers and catback exhaust, so kind of a waste having the stock cats choking the flow.
