anybody have immediate problems with spark plug wires??
anybody have immediate problems with spark plug wires??
my taylors were all burnt up so i opted for a new set. i went cheapo and bought the jegs brand wires for lt1 and i went ahead and got tr-55's too. well, it ran great for a day and then after the 2nd or 3rd day, it starte missing and sputtering a little. that little turned into a lot in a hurry and has maintained the same since. After learning the tr-55's were not the right plug for my motor, i switched back to tr6's on the jegs wires. no change. I ordered some new msd 8.5 superconductors today from jegs (taylors were on a week backorder). hopefully this fixes the problem. Its the only other thing i changed. anyway, i was just wondering if anyone had immediate problems with plug wires like i might be having??
Re: anybody have immediate problems with spark plug wires??
Why were the tr-55's the wrong plug? From what I understand lots of guys on here use them. They show up as the correct plug at Advance when they look it up on the computer.
Re: anybody have immediate problems with spark plug wires??
i'm talking wrong plug as in heat range....btw, if you trust the autoparts store, thats the first mistake you've made in life. lol
Re: anybody have immediate problems with spark plug wires??
I was just saying that most guys on here use them. I just looked it up online to see if it came up for our engines from Advance's website.
Re: anybody have immediate problems with spark plug wires??
is it throwing any codes? If so, pull them and find out what's goin on. I didn't see in your sig whether or not you have headers, though I'm assuming not. You may have burnt a plug wire. The Jegs brand plug wires should be fine. I've honestly never seen any improvement whatsoever in changing between $30 wires to $130 wires, as far as performance. Not that I don't believe MSD's are superior to others and I WOULDN'T put them on, it's just that a cheap set of wires won't cause your car to run bad.
If the SES light is coming on (which it should be, if the miss is coming from anything in the ignition), you SHOULD be able to pinpoint exactly where your problem is coming from. If not, you could go ahead and replace the wires with your MSD's, checking the Jegs wires and making sure they're not burnt, and if they are, take the proper steps to insure your MSD's don't end up toast. While the plug wires are out, check your TR6's and see if the ceramic is cracked on any of them.
How many miles on the engine? Has the opti been replaced? If there's over 70K miles and the opti hasn't been replaced, that coule be where your problem is coming from.
If your SES isn't coming on, it could possibly be fuel cut. It says you have SVO's and a Walbro 255 in your sig...did you replace the regulator when you put these in? Check your fuel pressure just to be safe.
Hope you get it figured out, as I just went through the same situation. Turned out my stock pump is done, but there were other problems as well. Good luck, let us know how everything turns out.

Cheapo wires are not the way to go on any engine. I bought a new set of Elite spark plug wires and they worked great till I drove in the rain and the engine started choking and sputtering. Problem was wet wires were arcing all over the place.
Bought some MSD and nadda problems with rain or wet driving conditions.
Your cheapo wires might be arcing even if they are not wet. Get a spray bottle with some water and spray the wires down, if they are arcing you will hear the popping and see the sparks.
