Any1 ever change the oil filter adapter gasket?

I had an oil leak checked and the mechanic said that is is the oil filter adapter gasket. Has anyone ever changed this? Is it a big deal, the gasket which looks just like the rubber seal on the oil filter cost $13.00 bucks...interesting.

The mechanic said that it was where the filter attaches to the engine block, i didn't even know that there was a cooler. This is for a 94 LT1

Hmmm, the Y-Bodies have a gasket, and it is a PITA to scrape off the block. It also uses a large O-ring

Yes there is a gasket that comes in the kit for the oil filter adapter, but I didn't use it when putting together my motor. Everything has been fine on mine so I don't think it's needed. Then of course it begs the question why is there one if it's not needed. It's very easy to replace one so just say no thanks to the mechanic and next time you do an oil change just take off the adapter, it's only 2 bolts, and swap the gasket.

Thanks a lot, that is reassuring! Compared to everything I've worked on this car lately, I think I can handle 2 bolts

that gasket wont cause a oil leak.. the oil filter o ring covers the whole assembly. its probably your intake maifold that is leaking.

I recently looked at this subject, and read in the how to rebuild LT1 books and verified no gasket. Besides, it is self contained above the oil filter.

My 93 has two radiator lines running from the radiator back to the oil filter adapter. There is a gasket between the spin on adapter plate and the block. The 93's and probably your 94 has this system. It works as an oil cooler to the back of the block. It works very well, but it is a common occurance for those to go bad and leak. As far as how hard it is to change, I have never changed one.
