Question Any way to adjust idle?

Is there anyway to adjust idle without having to send my PCM off and have it changed? I just installed a cam and it idles around 1000 on the tach, and it was idling lower but after driving it around today, the idle has went up to 1000 and the cam isnt as noticeable at idle... I was hoping there is a way to adjust it to idle lower so I can hear the cam more Is there a way to do it?

No, the idel is fixed and is controled by a motor of some kind. You can program it with FreeScan.

1000 is higher than the stock idle. If the idle hasn't been changed in the PCM, you have a problem Take a look at your throttle body and see if you can adjust it down with the set screw. Your IAC could be "stuck" maybe causing the high idle or you might even have a vacuum leak. How does the car run?

EDIT: Your tach could also be off. Is the idle higher than it was before the cam install?

No, stock idle for an M6 is 800 RPM, however the tach is innacurate.

A malfunctioning IAC or an air leak elsewhere can cause a high idle. Did you use fresh gaskets on the intake and TBI during the cam install? Is everything TQ'd properly?

So if you adjust the set screw on the TB will the PCM compensate and keep the idle the same, I need to lower my idle too, I want it to idle at like 700 or so and its at like 850 now.

Yeah, its a waste of time to look at the stock tach....read the pcm with some logging software.

If you adjust the set screw to close the blades the PCM will increase the IAC to compensate and hit your programed targets.

If you adjust the set screw to open the blades the PCM will lower the IAC (ie close it) to hit the programmed targets.

However, you can increase your idle past the programed amount as the PCM is limited in it's ability to reduce air - basically when the IAC is fully closed.

In a stock TB there is also what appears as a drilled air hole through the TB about 1/4" di. which lets air through without PCm control.

Your likely problem is a dirty IAC motor - take it out, spray with carb cleaner, be careful not to push ort pull the pindle and reinstall - this can be done on the car and does not require gaskets.
