any thoughts on what this knocking may be???

hi guysk, what im asking is hard to guess over the net, but ill give it a shot anyway just for some opinions. k. last week, my car developed a knocking sound and feel (felt like the ypipe was knocking the floor or something) beneath the pedals. i fiugred the exhaust bolts came loose again and some part of the exhaust was hitting from under the car. well, i raised the car today, and everythings tight ?? couldnt find anything loose under the car at all, exhaust or other.

now , like i said, it only does it under load. it wont do it if i just rev the engine.
i put 10w40 oil in it 2 weeks ago (on someones advice), but went back to 5w30 today. is it possible its rod knock or something? oil pressure is fine, performance is there....

maybe its got something to do with the flywheel/clutch or something??

any and all opinios welcome. thank you very much

could it be that the engine is torquing and thats bringing the pipe up to hit the bottom of the car? you said only under load. how much load are we taking about just driving normal or getting on it hard? it wont torque much just reving the motor up in neutral. if it does it when you get on it hard check you motor mounts. just driving normal type of load (even when i get on it hard though). good suggestion (the motor mounts) its not just 1 knock. the knocks are consecutive, like tock tock tock tock tock. thanks for your input

Just cause the exhaust looks tight, doesnt mean its not knocking, this could also be asociated with the engine mounts as noted above.

well, i banged the exhaust from front to back so i suppose if it was loose anywhere it would move, but it didnt. how would you know if the engine mounts are bad? only by changing them? im pretty sure that when the mounts are bad on an auto car it causes the car to vibrate at idle. now, my car is an m6, and there is vibration at idle, but i think its just cause of my setup. could the mounts go bad on a car that has 60 000 miles? is there a possibility this could be driveshaft related ( checked in the haynes manual for "knocking" and it mentioned this)?? transmission related maybe? and last, but not least, is it hard to change the mounts? thank you very much as always everyone

k. i just started the car, and now its doing it even just idleing wether it be under load or at idle its knocking like mad. like trreeo, treeeo. wtf?? when i press on the clutch , it simmers down a bit (not engaging gears, only pressing clutch). could it be that something has fallen in there and is making that sound? last night when i gave it a little inspection i found a piece of plastic about 1 inch by 4 inches long right under the brake booster, just sitting there. i have no idea where it came from. maybe another piece fell inside where the flywheel clutch is?? suggestions as to what to do welcome if somethings in there, i would suppose i shouldnt drive the car till its fixed? you think maybe the piece will fly out on its own? possible ill damage my clutch?? help please

sounds like it might be coming from the flywheel area. if this is the original clutch it could be something related to that. ie throwout bearing, pressure plate, and clutch itslef. almost sounds like you might just have to go in there and inspect things. trey
