Any suggestions?

We just replaced the timing chain, water pump and a/c compressor in my Z (what a pain in the azz). Anyway it starts right up but when you throttle up it cuts out, it's like it's doing the opposite of what it's supposed to. Does this sound like an opti prob? This problem did not exist until we replace the other parts but we have taken the water pump and opti off 2 x's and check the alignment of the gear between the opti and the cam and it seems to be correct.

She has 153,000 miles on her and I believe it is still the original opti spark.

skip the cap idea... Check the wires.. Make sure they are routed correctly, if not, its probably the opti and save your self a crap load of hassle and get yourself a replacement Accel opti. Great units, I have one on my car and you dont have to worry about changing the cap and then still having the problem due to a bad optical sensor.

Definatly sounds like an ignition problem though.. almost like you have a couple of wires switched around.
