Any stroker guys using Hotcam...

I am building a 383 stroker for my 97 Z and I am going to use the Hotcam kit with it. Becasue that is what I have right now and can't afford a bigger cam at this time. I got a stoker kit from Eagle. Forged crank, forged H-beam rods, forged aluminum SRP pistons, 4-bolt splayed mains and ported LT1 heads with 2.02 in and 1.6 in exhaust valves. If anyone is using a similar setup, what kinda dyno numbers are you guys getting? Thanks.

Sounds like a nice setup

Minus the hotcam. I have the hotcam in my stock displacement car and it does realy good for what it is.

However, your car will run good, but not to its full potential with the hotcam. It will idle very well, and sound good. However, I just think that there is some left on the table with that many inches and a small cam.

not trying to flame or come off wrong....just telling the truth.

"Is anyone using this set-up" you say. I am running the exact same thing and even have a 97Z. The only difference is that my valves are 2.0 and 1.56. Only problem here is that I just put it in over the weekend and just started it today. One thing I wanted to say.....all those guys out there who said that the HotCam is too small...they must have some wild Sheit. I think the Hotcam is pretty raunchy for a daily driver. They almost talked me into going bigger. I'm glad I didn't. I should have the custom pipes finished this week. I'll keep ya posted.

Its just that I know how a hotcam with a proper tune acts on the stock displacement lt1...pretty good. Seems to be a great cam for ME>not everyone.

I am used to seeing 383 strokers running XE grind cams or in alot of cases around here solid roller.
And they still seem to be ok, with the exception of re-adj the valves on the solid rollers every 5 min lol.

All I was saying is this, I think that cam is a GREAT cam, heck I have it in my z.
But, I PERSONALLY would save my money up and get a good xe grind cam or a cc306....depending on your goals. But if you are happy with the hotcam, thats fantastic too. I think it should/will run well with the setup you spoke of. But when /if you decide to go bigger, you will see what I mean...

I am not flaming your setup, in fact, it sounds good, real good.

I am just opinionated on this topic.

Hey Brad.....bud, I didn't even read your post man and wasnt referring to you pal. I was talking about some other threads I saw where guys bust on the Good ole HC. But if you notice on all the threads the HC always prvoes them wrong.

I dont know what Atalay is gonna use the car for and thats the big question there. Like for me, this car is gonna be a daily driver so I didn't want to to be too crazy. I went for it all on everything else except the cam.

I have a cc305 in my 383 which is just a tad bigger than the hot cam. Made for a real mild and well mannered car. It drives like stock but with more power

If you could spend $125 and gain 30-40 hp would you? Sure the hotcam will run great but your leaving alot of ponies on the table IMO....remember you can sell the hotcam for $125 pretty easy so a bigger cam will cost you only $125 out of pocket. I would do no less than a 230/236. Again ...Im not knocking the hotcam ...just offering an opinion .

With a bigger cam I need some good springs to go with it, which means more $$$$$!

I will use my Hotcam temporarily. When I get more money, I will definitely move up to a bigger cam. (I want the GM847) I just wanted to see how good the Hotcam works with strokers. Thanks for the inputs!!

Yeah, I would LIKE to get the double 1/4-pounder, but that costs more money and I'm just not that hungry. Not to mention the added cost in weight gain..

Someday, when I make more money, and work out regularly so my body can handle it, I'll get that double WITH the supersized fries..

My car, with a 383, ported Lt1 heads, and 11:1 compression made 370 RWHP with the hotcam. My heads maxed out before the hotcam did though, I've since gone bigger and haven't seen any real gains. 20 RWHP tops.

However, if you have the heads that will flow 260+, the hotcam will not make the best power. You will still see high 300's IMO, but don't look for more than that.
