any point in buying intake to practice porting?
planning on practicing porting heads then doing my real ones in the winter
just wondering if it was worth my time to practice on an intake
do you have to do much to the intake?
does it really need to be practiced on or is it just basically a gasket match?
thanks

would i really need to practice intake porting?
or is it so much like the heads that i can just practice on heads and call that it?
thanks

from what ive seen with the lt1 intakes if your doing a crazy amount of porting and tapering it so its larger at the top of the runners you can run into some issues with taking to much off and breaking through the intake but if your just port matching then i wouldnt thing that a practice intake would be necessary

i actually decided that i'll just practice on the heads, see what i do, and if it comes time later that i decide i need a practice intake, i'll just pick one up then

Re: any point in buying intake to practice porting?
I have an intake which I have gasket matched and poted for a TB, it has gone smooth and I never practiced on anything. I left the head porting to a machinist since I also went with larger valves and spings which required machining. Go for it.... just keep an eye on material thinkness while you're working on it.

Even if you did port the intake how much gain would you see over just porting the heads, 10-15 hp? I mean it had better be worth the time and money spent on practicing to get a decent gain.

The LT1 intake flows VERY well from the factory. I only gasket matched mine because it is off the car and figured it couldn't hurt anything. I had to port for the TB anyway.
