Any one with a 12 Bolt Moser please Read
Thanks for the reply vogel18!!! so if i just get my gears reset and a shorter DS that should fix my vibrating problem? i dont think my sway bars are hitting the cover. i got the performance cover and i have BMR swaybars and poly bushings but ill check it out. i still need to check my DS to see if its too long. (its been too cold and rainy out)
I am having the same problems you have so i guess i am going to have to do what your doing. but did i read this right, your saying moser is going to PAY for the gear reset??? if this is true let me know what i have to do and who to call to get that!!!
Thanks again for the replys Everyone!!!

Get the DS checked out ASAP! If you have the performance yoke on your rearend, its very likely its anywhere from 1/2 inch to 1 inch too long. I would hate to see someone else out 2000+ for a tranny like me.
I think it will help the vibrating problem some but definately will help the whine!
Yes! I am saying they will pay for it if its determined to be a setup problem. Here is their response to me.
"It is relatively common for aftermarket gears to make noise but it should not be excessive. You can take it to a shop to be inspected but normally it is just a function of the gears. If the shop determines that it is a bad setup, let us know and we can work from there.
Thank you,
Moser Engineering"
Let me know what you find on that sway bar. I would put the car up on ramp and look at it under load. If in fact your not having any clearance problems, that would be good for me to know. I could then be safe purchasing the BMR sway bar for my car. Let me know please...

Hey vogel18 i checked my Sway bars and had 2 people bounce the car up and down as i watched it and it did not hit the cover. i see how yours could but mine is not. my car is also stock height. how are yours mounted? on mine i have a U bolt and then some kind of bracket that holds the bushing about 1 inch away from the axle tubes? you can kind of see it on my web site www.formulaw66.cz28.com look at mod page 1. you can also see that no one told me to paint it till after it was installed. errr!!! another thing i have to do!
you can also see that my pinion seal is leaking. Im guessing that they put too much torque on my pinion nut and its messing stuff up. so i wont be going to that shop ever again!!!
so how do i get them to pay for the reset job? do i bring it to a shop and have them determine if it is set up wrong and have them call moser or give me a paper saying that so i can Fax it to them? would a leaking pinion seal after 3 months be considered a set up problem?
i will go under the car tomorrow and check my DS. i didnt get the 1350 yoke, is that the one you got? i got the 1310 yoke so hopfully its not to long. if you want while im under there i can get some close up pictures of the sway bar mounts or anything else you might want to look at.
Thanks again!!!

Mine bumps the upper panhard rod, but I have the performance rear cover. I also bought the Sphoon sway bar kit. It is very nice and highly reccomended. Grinding on the upper PHR helped a little, but it still hits on hard bumps. My car is also lowered though. I've been running on the stock DS legnth since I got it with no problems, but with the posts being made, I might need to check it.
Yea, PICS would be great!!! If you didnt get the 1350 yoke your probably ok on the driveshaft. From what I read that 1350 yoke is what makes the distance shorter between the axle and tranny yokes.
For the reset gear deal, I would take it to a reputable shop and get them to check the backlash and gears in general. If they determine the setup was not right, I would get in touch with Moser tech support or even some shops dealt with them directly. I might even let the shop know as long as they are honest about the situation before they tear it down.
I never thought about painting mine either. I still have to do the same thing. Looks like were in the same boat all the way around
.
Is anyone having problems with the stock torque arm? I opened up the car last night and BOOM again! I thought my tranny broke again but after a quick inspection I noticed one of the lower bolts on the torque arm was about half way out. No telling what the upper bolts look like. I do know that I heard some clunking and heavy vibration driving it home. I am praying that the upper bolts did not snap off where I have to tap them out of the rear housing! This rearend is becoming a serious PITA!!!! I have heard some complaints about these bolts working their way out on other peoples moser rearends.
I just ordered sphon LCA's and will probably be buying their sway bar kit and torque arm. Better yet, I will buy a Chevy Tahoe z71 for my daily driver where I can get the Z under control and worked out!

well i just got out from under the car. i measured my DS and i have about 3/8-1/2 of play with the suspension compressed and hanging. so i guess ill need a new DS. i think ill get a custom steel DS. I seen posts that say they are stronger than alunimum and sometimes weigh about the same or less. is this true anyone???
If so I will have a alunimum DS for sale soon!!!!
vogel18 i took some pics of the sway bar mounts and measured them. they hold the bushings about 7/8 inch away from the axle tubes and the bars do not hit the cover.
here are some pics
here is the space with my DS pushed all the way into the tranny

here is 2 pics of my sway bar mount

if these pics dont work go to my web site www.formulaw66.cz28.com and click on stuff at the top

Hi,
I just installed my Moser 12 bolt, and I have the exact same problems you guys are having, a banging noise, bad vibration above 90 MPH. I checked the DS length and it seemed to be ok, but I am having it checked by my DS maker. I will be checking over the TA clearance issue and I will post my findings. I am using the BMR track pack, LCA's, Pan hard, Boxed sub-frames. Also It feels like I have a spool, instead of the 33 Spline eaton posi (I have the posi I visually checked before installation) but every time I turn it never feels like the diff "breaks". I don't have excessive gear whine, it's almost not noticeable.

OK, Here is the update...
The Torque arm is hitting the tunnel, that explains the banging noise, simple fix, no big deal. The DS is the correct length and balanced perfect (almost no counter weights). So the DS is ok, no problem. However, I have a big problem with this vibration above 90 mph. I don't know about you guys, but I am angry as all hell. It's funny how my god awful, kill the guy at GM, POS GM 7.5 W/3:73 ran smooth as glass at any speed,
and my $2,300 Heavy duty 12 bolt wants to shake the screws out of the car
. What causes this vibration? How can it be fixed, and is moser responsible to fix it? If I would have known that the 12 bolt was going to be like this I never would of bought it. I explained the situation to my drive line guy (with years of experiance, and a good rep.) he said under no circumstances should a properly set diferental vibrate.

I FOUND OUT WHAT IS MAKING IT VIBRATE!!!!
the control arms are too long making the pinion angle off so the drive shaft vibrates. i got a set of BMR adjustable control arms and the vibration is gone!!!
but now since its been vibrating so long i have this horable noise coming from the rear end now. think moser will fix that???

As for the whine, I'll see how it is for the 500-mile break-in period, and have my shop check it and see if the install looks faulty. Either way, I can live with some whine more than that horrible vibration.
