Any advantage to the Cloyes 3145A Hex-A-Just timing set?

From what I can gather from my searches here...

I've got a '97 LT1, and I'm running a CSI electric water pump. Therefore, I don't need to drop buku bucks on the LT4 HD timing set, I can just spend the $80 or so on the Cloyes 3145 Double Roller. However, is there any advantage to running the 3145A Hex-A-Just? Will that provide anything useful on the LT1 setups? I'm not sure exactly how these cars work...

Also just to verify, this chain works fine on 96-97 also, not just '95's right? Most info I came up with on my search was about how to convert non-vented opti to a vented...

Oh, HP goals is in the ~500+ range, Advanced Induction has my heads for my 383

Thanks!
Dave

Don't think so, Dave. When you go tweaking the cam timing, you alter the the position the opti sees. You would have to make some adjustments to the spark tables to compensate.

I see...I'm going to be running the tuning from MadWolf, so I would assume whatever needs to be altered can...I'm just used to the SBF stuff where you can just turn the distributor etc. to time the car, wasn't too sure how this LT1 stuff was.

I guess I'll just get the regular 3145 setup and do everything through the computer then eh?

Who makes the EX-187?

Sure! Although, not necessarily in a oem cammed engine, is handy for cam timing alterations, as well, as being easier, to 'degree' a cam. I know, I know, there are many (I believe) that do not agree with me, or are, at the least, in doubt, regarding the merits of, (without opti timing disadvantages) the degreeing process, on the LTx engines. Well, try this on for size, to make another attempt.

Two oem LTx engines are checked for cam to crank timing, (which is the initial step in 'degreeing' a cam) one is determined to be within a degree. The other, is determined (remember this is a factory oem engine) to be 4* off, which way, for/in this example, is irrelevant. For those that insist, the opti timing will be adversly affected, when cam is degreed to oem specs, are you gonna state, BOTH of these engines, in this example, will have opti timing, that is correct, and agrees with oem specs?
