I have the canton T pan and when turning the motor over by hand it seems real hard to turn at one point of the rotation and I think the crank may be hitting the pan..I thought the cantons were suppose to not hit without haveing to modify it thats why I bought it...this is a 383 not 396 so did anyone else have this prob?

 

My 383 hit on the side panels were it holds down the mesh windage tray.
just had to "massage" those panels down a bit to cure the problem

 

was it loud when it hit when you turned it by hand...I cant hear any banging it just gets hard to turn at one point of the rotation

 

i had no fitment issues with my Canton pan on a 396 using a Callies Racemaster crank. also no clearance problems with one on my 383 that also has a Callies Racemaster crank


have you tried turning the engine with the pan off to be sure the hard turning is being caused by the pan?

 

yeah I realized its just because thats the cylinders I adjusted rockers for so far so its just harder to turn with the lifters and valve springs moving *doh* just being a worry wart
