another peg leggin question..
another peg leggin question..
ok, started doin the one wheel peel lately...
97 z28 with 120k on the clock... and installing the stuff in my sig and more in a couple weeks...
also, in the middle of a purchase of some zr1 wheels with nitto 555r's on the back with a cool dude on this board....
i bidded on an auburn posi unit off of ebay and was gonna throw that in with some 4.10's to fix the prob ..
im working on getting a 100-125 shot of laffin gas put in by june...
heres the question: with the fresh auburn unit, 4.10's, the drag radials and the power i am gonna be putting out without n2o, how long do you guys think the rear will last? gonna be makiing a cross country trek in june and dont wanna have the car sitting while i save for a beefier rear..
i am not going to take it to the track, and the most abuse its gonna see is some powershifts into second.. maybe a couple 1st gear launches on the street with the tires sticky(launch around 2500)..
also, do you guys think a girdle or the solid replacement for the crush sleeve will provide a little more insurance? i am thinking that staying at a 3.42 rear might also delay the inevitable a little longer, you guys agree?
just lookin to put off buying a beefier rear until september timeframe this year..
thanks,
josh

As long as you stick with street tires your rear should be ok. Unfortunately you are gonna have a tough time getting any grip without something better, even worse if you get NO2. Traction is the biggest killer of our rears, especially with the abrupt load an m6 puts on it. If you plan to spray NO2 outta the hole you can forget the rear lasting long. Or if you stick with street tires you can forget getting any traction.
You should be ok with DR's and the 4.10's. As long as you aren't too hard when you launch. It's a guessing game though. It can go at any time, even on the street.

Forgot to answer your other questions. Yeah a girdle and crush sleeve replacement will ad a little more insurance, but still probably not enough. The best bet your probably gonna have to get the most out of NO2 and still keep your rear in tact is to stick with your stock 3.42's. They should help you retain atleast some of your traction with the gas on and the hard load put on under launching shouldn't be as severe. I doubt it will last long if your spraying though, especially with sticky tires. You'll be happy with the gears and sticky tires for awhile. I'd save your cash for a 12 bolt or something and then consider the nitrous. You can't get the most out of it if you can't get the traction to use it. I bet the first time you finally get that traction will be the last time your rear has a good day. Good luck though.
