Post Another Exhaust Question

I have decided to can the idea on true duals, it is just too much hassel. I have decided to go with Jet Hot LTs. My question is what is the best Y pipe and cat back exhuast. I am looking for a mean sounding exhaust but not the Loud Mouth SLP. Right now I have a borla cat back and it sounds too raspy and it would get worse with Long Tubes. So if anyone could give me insight on this question that would be great.

I am not too worried about price

Dont give up on duals. Well if you do stay away from the mufflex y-pipe. Everyone on here complains about that one. Just get a custom one done. It cost like $200 and that is installed, well around here. I have never heard a complaint about hooker catbacks. It has a deep mellow sound and has good power. If you dont worry about money try a corsca exhaust it is like $600. But to me I would think it sounds similiar to Borla (which is my favorite). So Hooker is my vote

If you don't care about the money, my vote goes to GMMG's cat-back system. Check it out at www.gmmginc.net.;)

Coming from someone who had Hooker Longtubes, offroad 3" ypipe and SLP 2OTL catback, do yourself a favor and go with true duals. My car didn't really sound good until I put a cutout on the Catback.
I have heard many LT1 cars with longtubes and true duals and they sound marvelous. You can get a NICE set of true duals for fraction of the cost of ypipe/catback, especially if you are considering the corsa or GMMG.

On my TA I am going to run Hooker Longtubes thru an offroad Dr. Gas X collector thru Borla XR1 bullets and then into turndowns.

Thanks guys for the information on the cat backs but I still thinking about not giving up on the true duals. Also what do you all think would be the exhaust parts for the ture dual set up. Which mufflers should I run etc.

Also how should my setup be and how much ground clearance would I have. Is it worth buying a X or H pipe, or would it even fit. Thanks Mark Tisdale

PS Sorry for all the questions, I am just trying to get the best sound and performance.

my true duals cost me 390 total, thats mufflers, x pipe, over the axle and out the back, nice tips(magnaflow $70), and labor , and im very glad i got duals over a catback. my set up is not too loud untill 2300 rpms or so because i went with twister mufflers over bullets, i may switch to the bullets later when the cc306 goes in or just get dual electric cutouts.

Here is your Cost.
Hooker Longtubes. $500-600
X Pipe $50-100
Mufflers (Bulletes) $35 a piece
Custom bended Pipe $100-200 installed

But like others said It's at most $200-$500 for a true dual setup installed incuding all parts and labor. A good catback cost around $300-700 and is another $75-100 installed

The Bullets are made by Dynomax and are usually found at summitracing.com

It is a lot cheaper not to go over the axel with true duals.

Thanks guys for the information on the true dual setup, but I was looking at putting on 2 chamber flowmaster mufflers. Someone said I would have clearance problems. Should I just go ahead and get the Bulletes. Also what high flow cats do you recomind and what brand X pipe would be the best for clearance and performance.

Thanks again Mark Tisdale

I am not sure how much bigger the flowmasters are. I dont think they would be a problem for ground clearance since there long and flat I just think the width would be the problem. Bullets are defiently a favorite, and they are dirt cheap. Most people get the Dr.gas x-pipe.

Or you can get a shop to make one. Sometimes its cheaper. The most problem with clearance comes from the headers not the dual setup. Like someone else said the Borla ZR-1 are about the same size of the bullets and is what I wanted but start at $130 and go up to $250. To much for me right now.
Depending on when you have emissions is when you need a cat. If it is like every few years just wait and when its time put in two cat's . Thats what I am doing. Just remember anything is possible is just cost more. Thats what all the shops around here say.

If you want really cheap and don,t care about how loud your car is, go with my setup, Hooker LTs Jet Hot and Flowtech Purple hornies header mufflers. I modified em to fit my DDed and Gload braced car and had O2 bungs welded in. Exhaust total (minus the JH LTs obviously) 100 bucks.
Again this is LOUD. So you have to be a cement headed hot rodder like me to do this.
I also made my 1500 dollar stereo setup completly useless while driving.
Why do I do these things?

Thanks guys for all the information and I will find a custom shop to do it this summer, and I am going to get Jet Hot LTs with 2 high flow cats and a X pipe and 2 chamber flowmasters if all this fits. If anyone can give me a idea of what X pipe I can use I would appericiate it.
