Another comp R lifter thread. Adjustment questions...
I just bought the comp R lifters and I thought i had them adjusted but my car keeps dying at idle.. I knwo they are too tight.. I turned them to zero lash and gave them a tiny bit of a turn maybe an 1/8 tops.. Seems that they need less.. My problem is that they all arent even when im adjusting them, sometimes the poly locks are in different positions, When i had my comp High energys the polys were always even, thats what i went by to adjust them. Im thinkin of just going to zero lash and tightening the polys.. What do you all think? Whats a good method of adjusting these?????
There really can't be much more to say than what was in the other mult-page thread. If you are using Pro-Magnum rockers, make sure all the trunions are turned right side up. That will make a difference on where the poly locks sit.
oh no no.. I got that part.. lol.. Its just I cant get the right preload.. The car seems to idle ok in the beginning.. after it heats up and i drive it the car doesnt idle right, it surges and idles low, then the check guages light comes on. Falls on its face up top too.. I can feel the rockers are too tight.. I just finished adjusting them again and I only turned them finger tight and then a BIT more and tightened the poly lock.. I dont get it.. how much of a turn should you give em..
I was thinking vacuum leak until you said it idles low.
What method are you using to adjust them? I'm guessing you're doing it with the car running since you have poly locks.
Shoebox, stupid question. What are the trunions?

I don't know what to say that was not discussed at length in the other
thread. Mine are set to 1/8 turn with 7/16s studs and they work fine. I
have a baby cam but they should still work at 1/8 turn with a big cam.

Re: Another comp R lifter thread. Adjustment questions...
Does anyone know if it would be ok if I just set them to zero lash and tightened the locks down? I figure with heat expansion it would be ok, It has a cc306 cam.. thats why im having trouble with the steep lift and an 1/8 adjustment..

Make sure that you adjust them all at TDC. Set the damper with the arrow up and if #1 isnt open any, then it is at TDC. Then adjust #1 and turn the crank 90* and continue through the firing order.
I let my engine warm up and then set them to zero lash. Have some towels handy to keep the heat off your hands. I adjusted them cold at zero and they ended up backing 3 out completely.

Tell us exactly what you're doing and we'll go from there. You might be making a mistake somewhere along the line and that's tough to diagnose over the net. So explaining everything in detail, while frustrating, might help us help you.
Thanks.

Re: Another comp R lifter thread. Adjustment questions...
OK.. I pulled the #1 Plug.. Turned the crank by hand till air blew out of it just before 12 oclock, turned it to 12 and checked the valves for the proper positions.. Loosened all the rockers.. backed off all the poly locks.. went through the chart of adjusting them in order.. Number on intake I took the nut and spun it down till it stopped lightly, then gave it another 1/16 of a turn and locked the poly lock. I did the same for all the valves and then spun the crank 360 degrees and did it again on the proper valves..

These things are touchy. I've been playing with mine for a few days now as well. I actually managed to chew up, or rather grind off, the self alignment tabs on 6 Pro Mag rockers.
I just gave it a shot with the new guideplate/7/16 stud NSA Pro Mag setup, but it's freaking noisy as heck, and giving me false knock.
I did each cylinder at TDC, tightened the retaining nut until the pushrod got hard to turn/drag was felt, gave each about 1/16 turn, locked the poly lock, and then on the advice of my tuner, gave the retaining nut a bump. Fawking noisy. I'm going back today to reset them with about 1/4 turn, but my only fear is that I'll kill the top end of my powerband, which I don't want.
