another 383

I am assembling a LT1 stroker 383 with forged eagle crank, H beam rods, SRP dished pistons. Have a 58 mm throttle body, lt1/4 hot cam and 1.6 roller rockers. My heads are the new afr 195 street eliminators. Will be using the hooker long tubes. What do you guys think of this for a daily driver and what if anything should I change. What size injectors should I use and what modifications will I need for the ecm. Thanks for reading

With those heads and cubes, I would go with a bigger camshaft.

a friend of mine has a very similar set up. it runs nice, excellent driveability, more torque than you can deal with every where, and is a fun dependable car even with 2.73's on a stock stall. he runs a stock fuel sytem

yeah ditch the hotcam. Its old news. If yer looking for driveability though on a daily basis I wouldnt go with much more than a gm847 "size" cam. Something with decent lift but not too radical on the duration I would say. What do the heads flow? Im sure one of the cam gurus will chime in asking more questions as to yer intentions with the vehicle, realisistically, to better choose a cam, but the lt4 hotcam is old technology, but proven HP. It wasn't however intended for a 383 and wont net you your full potential for this assembly.

It still wouldn't hurt to but something a tad bigger in than a Hotcam and still be a DD.

wow a real man, hahaha :-) I also agree, go alittle bigger then a hotcam. There are many off the shelf grinds that make more power then the hotcam and dont give up dd'ability (is that a word?)

what do you guys think of these 2 cams Lunati Voodoo cam #60121 or the 60122. Any suggestions would be greatly appriciated. I was also told that I could use 30# injectors. I am here on this site because of the expereance you guys have with the LT1. Will I have any clearance problems with the 1.6 roller rockers and the stock valve covers?

I'd go with the comp cams xfi 280. That's what I put in the 355 I'm building. I think for a 355 that it's about as big as you'd want for a daily driver but the extra cubes you're running will tame the cam a little.

There's a video on youtube of a trans am that has a 383 with the xfi 280 so you can hear it.

But how does it perform?

I see a LOT of guys pushing the XFI stuff and I see a lot of disappointing results from the XFI stuff. People mistake latest for greatest.

How high are you willing to rev?

peak intake flow with those heads is achieved at .550 lift with no change at .600 according to afr's website. So no need for a cam with huge lift. Since its a stroker you could get away with more duration then the hotcam and still maintain daily drivability. Check with the half dozen custom cam grinders on these boards, they will come up with something you will be happier with.
