Am I getting Raped?

Just got a quote to change my fuel pump.... $947.55 Is it just me or does that seem high? It is at a dealer, but that still seems kinda like a bit of a stretch,

Thanks,
John

That's a little more than just raped, in my opinion. You can get a new Walbro pump for a little over $100 and install it yourself fairly quickly if you cut an access hatch over the fuel tank. If you don't want to cut a hatch, you'll have to drop the tank to get at the pump. Either way is better than paying the dealer $950 to do it.

yeah

well put it this way...i work for acdelco, and my cost on it is 115$ dealers will charge double just because they have to make money on the part itself, so there goes like almost 200-250 just in the part, then theres the strainer that they wanna change...then the smoke break they take....it will also take like 3 -4 hrs at the most but yeah it does seem high...maybe if it was like 600 it would be a good deal thats just my .02

Well, taking the tank out on these cars are a PITA. Did mine myself and it took about 6 hrs getting all those rusty bolts loose.

My speed shop charged me 250$ in labor to do my 2nd one. But I also had a new engine put in

Buy a manual and do it yourself, or...........

Accept the fact that you're not going to get a reach around.

A fuel pump should not require specialized expertise. I would look for another reputable shop to do the work and you can provide the pump of your choice yourself.
