Question Aluminum flywheel?

I'm getting ready to order a Star Stage 3 carbon clutch in preparation for my heads/cam swap later on this year. I was hoping to do it all at once with the engine out, but the stock clutch has other ideas. I am pretty sure the flywheel may need replacing because it has been slipping for a little while now. If that's the case, would there be any benefit to using an aluminum flywheel, or should I just replace it with a stock one? It will be mostly street so I'm not sure aluminum is the way to go. I talked to a guy at SPEC, and he's running a 13lb aluminum one on his 94 Vette. As you can imagine, it revs like a motorcycle, but he didn't say how it behaved on the street. Anyway, I was just curious to know what you guys thought about it. Thanks!!

have you resurfaced your stock flywheel before?

aluminum flywheels only need to be avoided if you mainly drag race your car at the track. heavier flywheels help with launches. on the street or autocross, aluminum flywheels make you rev quicker.

I read an article recently (MM&FF?) which disproved this old story. Yes a heavier flywheel helped with launch a bit (very little bit), but lost on every shift. The conclusion was that lighter is better for any racing. Yes, a bit less streetable though...

Well I bought it almost 3 years ago with 12,000 miles on it. It now has 23,500 on it but the clutch started going at about 18,000 miles. I guess the guy that owned it before me either had no idea how to drive a manual, or more than likely he beat on it pretty good. It should be good enough to resurface at least once, I would think. I was just kind of curious in case it needed a new one.
