Alternator wiring

Hey members, I figured you can help me with this. After sitting for 8 years my alternator isn't charging. I am assuming it has lost its magnetic field, so I am going to have it bench tested to see if that re-excites it. The single red wire that plugs into the alternator has 12V coming in. The voltmeter displays voltage, and if I hook up a battery charger it sees the increased voltage on the dash.

@GaryDoug

Thank you, Rob

Re: Alternator wiring

I would run the engine for a while and see if it starts to charge. Maybe the slip rings are not making good contact.
Also check the connection at the single red wire, maybe some corrosion could be cleaned up. Unplug it and re-plug it several times.
