Alternator or Voltage Regulator Replacement?

I'm only getting about 11 volts off the stock LT1 alternator. Bad alternator or could it just be the voltage regulator? Anyone ever just replace the voltage regulator on the Delco alternator? How difficult?

If you are only seeing 11v, then you are probably only readiing battery voltage and the alt is putting out nothing.

The voltage regulator is inside the alternator and can be replaced if you desire. The cost of the regulator is pretty high and almost as much as an alternator, itself.

Tested it at the Zone, sure enough the diodes are fried. Surprisingly, they didn't have a replacement with a lifetime warranty (they did have a $99 rebuilt with a one-year warranty).

I've searched and the best deal I've found is Advance Auto Parts--140 Amp AC/Delco reman for $148. Pep Boys had a 120 Amp Pro Start with lifetime warranty for $119, but for the extra 30 bucks, I'm going to go with the AC/Delco.

Any other aftermarket (Powermaster, etc) that would bolt in was over $265 and the warranty wasn't as good.

Bottom line: The best deal I could find is on a stock LT1 OEM Reman. I couldn't find a substitute that would bolt in; and if you want a lifetime warranty, you're going to pay!
