alternator/valve cover clearance

Well I bought a nice new pretty set of Aluminum valve covers, these were the "short" ones. But turns out they dont clear the alternator. Is there any way of bending a set of aluminum valve covers? Heat maybe? I think I can grind a little of the alternator away to help......Also the alternator relocation bracket, does the A/C have to be removed to do this?........thanks

I fit some Proform alum covers to a 97ss LT1 to clear the locks on Comp ProMag RR's. I clearanced the alt. Be carefull not to cut to deep. I think there is a write-up on the camaroz28.com web site. The cover did fit tight, but, it does not leak. I also used a thicker gasket (Felpro fron Summit). I do have to remove the alt to remove the passenger side cover. AC is on the down-low, so, clearance should not be a problem. B.

Is there anyone that makes an alternator that might give me a little more clearance?

You can one from a 95' 4.3l caprice. I think it is only 105 amp though, the stock one is 120amp. You might look into it.

Canton and a few other companies make LT1-specific valve covers with a notch built in. You can try grinding the alternator as well.

I run the tall Proform's and all I had to do is grind a small spot on the alt.
And remove the baffles of course.
