Alternator Squeeking...w/n

Well actually, it's more like the alternator pulley. Just started today or maybe it was quieter before and I didn't notice it. It's not too loud, but really annoying. Any suggestions on dealing with it? Maybe the serpantine belt isn't tentioned enough?

Could be the bearings too. If they're old, they could be getting a little dry. Not too hard to replace.

I'm no expert here...which bearings? Alternator? I just had my opti and water pump replaced a few weeks ago, but havne't had any problems related to them at all. I was just outside listening to it for a few minutes and am positive it sounds like it's coming from the alternator.

It might sound like the alternator, but I would bet it is the belt itself. Put a new belt on there and see what happens.

There are 2 ball bearings inside the altenator. one in front, one in back. When they get old, and the grease dries up, they tend to squeak and squeel. Sometimes letting the car warm up will make it go away. Some places sell rebuild kits with bearings and brushes, which u probably need as well. Some electric motor shops could probably do the work, or there may be a auto shop that will do it too.

The belt's not even a year old.

I've heard a very small amount of WD40 on the belt might help. At least that's what's suggested on some other threads. I'm a little hesitant to do that though.

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but the squeeking is from the belt getting dirty. The WD40 would just ruin the belt. Your belt might have gotten dirty during the opti/waterpump install. Those damn greasy mechanic hands, lol.

WD40 will dry out a belt and make it brittle.

I went through 5 alternators and the majority of them had the rear bearing let go.

Too much stress on the pulley at 6000+ rpm I guess
