Alternator Relocation?

Has anyone used one of those relocation brakects to put the alternator down under the car? I was thinking if this is a good idea or not. It seems if you ever got caught in the rain water would get up on it. I don't drive in the rain, but have been known to get caught in the rain a couple times. I just wondered what your guys take is on it....and if it makes a little extra room or does it just clutter the bottom of the engine underneath the car.....it's just a pain taking it off everytime you want to work on it. So what do you think about it. I think i'm not going to do it but wondered what you guys have heard on it.

Re: Alternator Relocation?

Not sure which kind your referring to....there are ones that completely remove the entire accessory bracket like the alternator relocation brackets at www.mycamaroz28.homestead.com .

These ones are for when your removing AC as well as PS. You'll remove a ton of weight and working on the car is a breeze on the passenger side as it REALLY cleans up the whole side of the engine. I'll tell you, changing plugs is a no brainer, that's for sure. It's the only time I'd bother relocating the alternator.

I don't think i've ever heard of anyone having water issues from the alternator relocated down on the passenger side.

I never understood why anyone would want to bother relocating the alternator if your not removing accessories. Your only adding weight to the car which most people don't like doing. I'd imagine the only reason is so you can run different valve covers, though for the few hundred you spend on doing this AND then having to pay for new valve covers, you can purchase the valve covers of choice and have someone (or yourself) modify them or have a custom set made up.

I saw a really nice set of custom valve covers that were REALLY nice. I wish I could find the post to point them out, maybe someone can find it. They were awsome looking. They enabled you to run better clearanced valve covers as well as leaving the alternator where it was.

Thumbs up Re: Alternator Relocation?

I changed the location altogether w/ a bracket that puts on the driver side. Pretty slick design and built w/ A+ materials. 200 bucks and it retains PS, AC if you want as well. Speed specialty is the one that carries the bracket.
I don't do rain so I couldn't tell you personally but I highly doubt it would do anything. Remember LS1's are in the same location if not lower than the bracket sold here.

Yeah I went w/ different VC's too.

Re: Alternator Relocation?

I found the post with the custom valve covers, these look like someone put a good amount of time into them...price is VERY reasonable also. I think they were 300.00 which is a great price considering they are custom done and not cheap looking. A similar moroso is more then that which they are not a direct bolt on as these are.

Here's the post:

There's also a bunch of posts regarding filing a corner off of your alternator for various valve covers...or just slightly modifying the cover.

Hopefully this is some useful information for some of you.
