alternator question

alternator question
i bought some new centerbolt valve covers for about 150 there the black crinkle ones that say chevrolet in red. well any ways there made of a different material so i cant bend them or bang them to let the alt fit. and i dont want to get rid of them is there another alt. i can use maybe a smaller or thinner one?? please help
