alternator question

I need a LT1 alternator, I was at the junkyard yesturday and they had no LT1 cars in there, but I seen alot of gm cars that had alternators that looked just like the LT1 alt. so my question is can I use one of them or is the alternator on the LT1 just for LT1's?

Re: alternator question

Go here and "play":
http://www.wai-wetherill.com/products/ymm.cfm

You can do cross references but what you need is a CS144
('93 Alt for a 5.7 Part number: 20-1128-31 CS144).

The problem is with the bolting and the plug.
Unfortunately it will have to be an F-body.

Look at the difference for an Alt that was in a Caprice using the same CS144 electrical series: 20-1100-21
