alternator?

alternator?

my T/A every time i start it now wants to die after it starts, i look at the volt meter and it just drops. then today everyt time i came to a stop the volts would drop, then on my street i slowed down and it died, if i start it and it wants to die, if i put my foot on the trotle to get the volts high enough it will stay running, please help

You might have a dead battery.... Your local auto store should have a load tester to check it...

Battery and alt should be checked, as well as all connections.

yep check all of the above, or a slipping belt can cause that too.

Autozone can check both alt and battery for you. It sounds more like an alternator. but when an alternator goes out it can take the battery with it so check them both.

thanks alot that is what i was thinking it was. i have another question, if it is the alternator, do i have to buy one form GM or an auto parts place or, can one of the single wire hook up ones out of summit or jegs work too?

If it was me, I would buy one at my local parts store that has a LIFE time warranty..... AC Delco only haas one year..... JMO
