alright rebuild costs..
alright rebuild costs..
labor would be free...so how much am i looking at to rebuild my old girl ...???....bottom end bearings are done ....i am not one bit interested in putting a new motor in it....just leaving it stock....best place to get parts??....thanks
If you don't want a performance upgrades and just want a fresh motor you might check your local engine remanufacturer. Where i live there is a place that just rebuilds motors back to stock and you can exchange your old motor for a fresh one. They're pretty cheap, and are just a stock rebuild. If i remember right they were like $1000 for a stock short block rebuild, on exchange. You'd also get a warranty with it as well. I think my local place offers 3 yr, 36k mile warranty on them.
when the bearings are gone like in my car ...what other parts of the engine have been damaged??...motor has 109000 miles on it.....like i said i am keeping the motor its important to me to have the numbers match i dont care what anyone else thinks about that ...
head gasket was done right before the bearings went....

that depends on whatyou mean by "done". if you spun a main or rod bearing then you may have to have the crank turned and/or the block machined.
A rebuild can get very costly if you go all out. If you just want to go stock again, you can get most of your parts airly cheap and only spen 1000-1500. just depends on what else is worng with the bottom end. no way to know till you tear it down.

If you pull the motor out. Drop off your block at a machine shop and they only have to do the basics you can rebuild for a very reasonable price. if the block is in good shape and the bores are not too bad you can get away with a quick hone, cam brgs, align hone, ect... you can get out of the machine shop for under $1000 no problem.
if you start adding 4 bolt mains and boring the holes, tossing in forged crank, rods and pistons you can put yourself in the poor house in no time flat.
If you have the tools and the know how to assemble the bottom end, and a stock rebuild you can do the entire project for probably less $2500.
have your crank checked and polished, reuse as many items as you can. You can get a stock replacement gasket set from Summit for cheap. reuse your pistons and rods. Some work needs to be done to them but its pretty cheap vs buying aftermarket forged parts. Have the machine shop rebuild the heads with new guides, seats ect...,
Items I would recommend replacing no matter what:
opti, waterpump, oil pump and drive gear, timing chain.
Just dont get caught up in the "well its out I might as wll put heders on it" thing and you can do it for cheap. Ask me how I know about that!!! I started out my motor build with a mild hydraulic motor in mind and next thing I know I have close to $10k in parts in my garage. And a build up that shooting 500 rwhp and looking for 10's... You dont have to spend a ton to do it right and have a motor good for another 150K miles.

You can do a cheap fix! I've just finished this on a Camaro I own that spun some bearings. Buy a SCAT 9000 cast crank (they come balanced) for $180.00, new bearings for about $60 and a oil pump. Pull the motor, leave the heads on and pull the crank, install new bearings and button it up. Total cost with oil and fluids if you have someone to do the labor $350.00 at the most.
This car has what I just told you about done:

I just picked up this car about a month ago:

It has a hole in the oil pan from a spun rod and the motor is locked. Both I paid less the $2000 for each car BTW. Good luck what ever road you chose.
