Allow me to vent about my leak...

Just after doing a cam swap and replacing all seals (including the rear main & oil pan gasket), my engine still leaks from the rear. I still see oil leaking over my starter bolts and dripping around the t56 inspection cover and all back down my tranny. I've checked the rear of the intake with my bare hand....completely dry. Oil pressure sending unit and oil level sensor are dry as well. I did not replace my oil cooler o-ring, but there is no evidence of a leak around my oil filter. With the engine running, the leak is a steady drip...about 1 drip every couple of seconds. It eventually stops after the car has been shut off and cools. My cam swap evolved from my desire to fix the leak....cammed now...but still have a leak
I'll double check everything...i actually would prefer it to be an intake leak over a rear main seal leak, but i'm sure it's the latter. Does anyone have any luck with those fix-a-leak chemicals from auto parts stores? I'm running 10w30 conventional right now. What's the thickest grade I should try without putting too much stress on my internals to see if that stops it?

I would not put any "quick fix" crap in my engine. Quick fixxes ALWAYS cost more when you have to go back and fix it the right way. With that being said, I just fixxed a leak that I could not find after looking and looking. I changed the oil pan gasket and the rear main 2 times and it did not fix it. . I finally figured it out when I went to change the oil pan gasket and seen on the back the 2 rings that keep you from over torquing the pan gasket was still stuck to the block. That kept the new gasket from seating on the block. Probably not your problem but something to check.

I am in the same situation as yourself. I have a terrible oil leak from the rear of my intake i believe and was thinking about doing a cam swap while i was opening it up but your making me double think that. Good luck with your problem i know how annoying oil leaks can be.

Just a quick FYI that you're replying to a year old thread.

I talked to a mechanic at a reputable shop in town. He was a field engineer for GM for about 15 years. He said that little oil leaks on LT1/LS1's are normal. You could spend thousands trying to fix every little leak but it will still leak a little.
