All you T56 users, GET AN AFTERMARKET SHIFTER!

This is strictly an informational posts for anyone who has a T56, get an aftermarket shifter! I just took my transmission out for the second time and my detent keys were broken... again. Guess what the cause was? a stock shifter.

If you don't already have one, get one...

I've heard pro 5.0 and B&M Ripper. Both at www.ls1speed.com

I had a hard time buying a shifter at first because i knew i wouldn't actually get anymore performance out of it. Once i did buy it though it was one of the better purchases i have made for the car.BTW. HURST billet plus is the way to go.

Pro 5.0 or B&M - Much more solid than the Hurst IMHO.

Have you driven both? or are you just going off of what everyone else on this site says? Most of the time people just go off of what they have read on this site and not what they have tried. Me and my friend both prefer my hurst to his pro 5.0. Then i have another friend with a cobra that prefers my hurst to his pro 5.0 too.

My very first mod? B&M ripper short throw shifter. Simply amazing. I love it. I cant comment on the Pro 5.0 but I hear its good too. I've driven 3 fox bodies and each has a B&M ripper in it as well as two of my other friends with fox Mustangs. Shifter felt great in those cars too. B&Ms are popular for a reason.

I've had a stock SS hurst, shortened stock shifter, B&M Ripper and a Pro 5.0 and I must say, the Pro 5.0 beats all of these by far. It's the best shifter you can get for our cars, period.

billet hurst = badass shifter. i hear the stock SS shifter was a flimsy pos but the billet is definitely a good shifter.. i like it better than my pro 5.0.

The reason i say get a shifter is to save your transmission. I could care less personally about the feel of it. Aftermarket ones have these screw stops that prevent the slider from going too far and breaking the detent keys on the sycronizer. I didnt miss third much with my stock one and 2 days ago slamming it in 4th on the highway.... bam. Broke a 33 cent part that is going to take me all day to fix.

Went Pro 5.0 here.. Adjustable stops so i wont bend my 3rd-4th shift fork, and offset going into 3rd so i'll never miss third. Very solid feel.. painted the stick black... gold looks tacky.

I also like the factory hurst. Felt smooth.
