For all of those tired of the infamous rear "clunk"

I lived with that annoying crap for too long. I finally got out my Chiltons and found out what the torque is supposed to be for the rear control arms and panhard rod. I had them way too loose. The torque is 60 lb ft. or 720 inch lbs. No more nosie!!!! Make sure you have the car jacked up by the rear end when you torque them. Hope this helps someone.

The clunk at a low speed is the transmission getting "fooled".....it's about to shift and then you let off the gas, that's why it does that.

My car does it too! it pisses me the hell off! I'll be doing like 5 mph, than if i back off the gas, and barely give it some gas..sometimes i hear a clunk. Is this what you guys are talking about?? Or is it something different?

that's kinda of funny how there's so many rear end clunks for our cars. When I first read the title for the post I thought you guys were talking about the clung that the jack makes if you don't have that little rubber peice underneath it. Or when that little black peice swings during turns and hits the tire and makes a little clunk sound.

I got it too. I was wondering for the longest time what the hell that was. I thought the rear end was goin out. Seems normal if everyone has it .

I got it too, right as the tranny is about to shift when i let off it just makes a "thud", like someone tapped it with a hammer. I dont know where exactly it is coming from but seems to be under the cupholder area. Must be normal, lot of folks talk about it.

Im talking about clunking from the rear when you hit big pot holes and such. If the noise is coming from under the cupholder, I'd say its the tranny mount. I had that clunk before as well and the mount was toast. One more thing, torque the nut to 60 foot lbs, not the bolt head.

I have the rear clunk as well after shifting 1st to 2nd and as well let off the gas pedal, it makes a clunk noise too. I know around 60xxx I changed the tranny fluid and it was gone for a little bit but I have 80xxx and it's back now making the same noise
