All Those With Qtec Cutout

I just got mine in yesterday. Does it have to have the flowtech cutout, or will it work with one from JEGS or Summit (much cheaper). Also, I assume I only use RTV and not the gasket with the cutout, right? What nuts did you use to hold the Qtec to the cutout? Finally, what did you run the power source to? I want to get it on this weekend, hopefully the cutout makes it, and I can get everything straightened out.

Oh yeah, where is a good place to mount the switch? I thought about putting it under the cigarette lighter, but the plastic around it seems a little flimsy (there isn't much slack in the switch).

I mounted mine under the radio in the back of that big console storage space next to the cigarette lighter, and got power from the fuse block on the side of the instrument panel from the radio fuse. ran the wires through the knee panel and got ground from a bolt in there. It will work with pretty much any 3" cutout. I did not use the gasket, only Red RTV silicone, and it seals fine. It comes with nuts to use. I ran the switch wire up through the drain plug by the passenger side back carpet, over to the kick panel, all the way through it and up under the glove box behind the console.

I bought mine in the classifieds on the site and it came without nuts. Are they anything special, or will I need to purchase a certain kind?

I picked up the power, and routed the cable in pretty much the same manner as CmrOz28 . I recall that I had to pick-up a hex nut instead of using one of the wing nuts because of a clearence problem....only because of the way I welded the cut-out on to the I-pipe. As far as the switch I mounted it to the bottom of the ash tray ( I dont smoke/ don't allow any smoking) plus it's hidden.

I actually thought about using the ashtray. So there's plenty of room to allow full movement of the switch? What brand cutout, did everyone use (the actual cutout itself, not qtec)?

Yes I have my nitrous arm switch, bottle heater switch, and purge all on the ashtray panel.

I have the flowtech cutout which I got in a package with the QTEC itself from www.LS1Speed.com for $169.99. The nuts are nothing special, not locking or anything. My flowtech came with wingnuts but the QTEC came with regular hex nuts, and I used the hex nuts so I could tighten it alot harder since it won't be coming off for awhile.
