ALDL Cable?

How many pins are there on a ALDL cable from AKM? (the side that connects to laptop) I have one, but I am not sure from where it is from and I was wondering if I can use it.

Thanks

The side that connects to the laptop is a standard 9 pin COM port connector. If you have a picture of your cable, I'll probably be able to tell you where it's from and if it will work or not.

I do not have any pictures with me, but I know it is more than 9 pins. It is flat and rectangular, but not as long as a printer port.

I use it on my ACTRON scan tool, it is made for several GM applications for OBD1 vehicles.

When I get home I can tell you how many pins it has.

All I know is that the port does not fit my laptop, but I know nothing much about computer hardware. Maybe I need some king of connection converter.

Thanks

Yes, you will need a converter box and the other side of the cable that connects to the laptop. You can contact Andrew at www.akmcables.com and he may be able to build you the other side you need, but what you have right now won't work alone.

Ok, so I just might as well buy a new one right.

You are saying that I need his computer end connection and some type of converter. Or can I just buy a converter?

It works perfectly in my scan tool, it reads all data, but does not have the luxury to log data and save it. Also the windos is limited to 4 sensor views, I would like to look at all my sensors at all times.

Thanks

If you have experience working with a multimeter and soldering/wiring, etc, then you could just buy the converter or the converter kit and do the rest yourself. The cable that hooks up to the laptop can be bought from computer hardware places, so you would only need the converter.

You could use TTS Datamaster (www.ttspowersystems.com) for logging. Really nice tool and it gives you 20 free runs.

Thanks Mad Wolf,

I counted the pins on my cable. There are 15 in total. Could I just buy some type of converter to fit my laptop?

Thanks
