Re: alarm...no start

What you describe doesn't sound like a factory option....see if you can find anything underhood that can give a clue....

The only thing in the back of the car that is related to the factory security system is the shock sensor. It's mounted on the passenger's side of the car just forward of the spare tire. Get us a picture of your remote if possible, and indicate what button you hit. The picture of the remote will tell us if your alarm system is factory.

Better yet...does your remote look like one of these on this webpage?

Re: alarm...no start

Thank you everyone for the replies on the "Security" stuff. So I ripped out some cheapy alarm that looks to have been tied into some stuff in the car.

Only to find out Camaro still didnt wanna start. Tapped on the starter twice and now she runs.

So is this 3 month old barely used starter already going bad?? Injuneer I believe you know exactly which one it is as far as part number goes, should I send it back for a replacement??

My CVR (now sold as a JEGs unit) has been on the car for 10 years with no problems. Check the wiring. You may have a corroded connection.

Re: alarm...no start

Okay the heavy wire going from starter to the battery looks pretty new, its a little longer then it needs to be though so Ima re-run it and chop it to size. It looks to be around a 6guage cable more or less. The smaller wire (ignition wire?) Is also in good shape as well Ill cut the end and put some fresh wire to the starter.

Any thing else or just see if it happens again? What should be the next steps if it does play dead again for no reason?

Re: alarm...no start

Ok so I let the car run lets say yesterday, it ran for about 25 minutes just sitting at idle parked. The next morning around 10 to 11 i try to start the car and boom nothing. It got stuck again. Had to tap the starter from the bottom a couple of times and it turned over no problem.

As well I noticed that when I am driving, i am hearing a somewhat metallic noise like something from the starter or flywheel (not sure about the name of the part the starter engages) around that area, im hearing a noise that speeds up and slows down with the Camaros speed??? Do I need to add a shim to the starter??

DO you hear a screeching noise when the starter tries to engage the flywheel? If so, a shim would help.

I don't know if it's possible, but maybe the starter is 'bound up'. Try loosening the bolts holding it on the engine and tightening them again, evenly to 34 lbs-ft.

Re: alarm...no start

You need to check the depth of the starter gear engagement in the ring gear (on the flywheel if its a manual). The clearance between the tip of the starter gear and the root of the ring gear should allow a standard paper clip wire to just fit in the opening. That's what you use the shims to adjust.

Re: alarm...no start

Looking at what I have left from the starter package there is two rectangular deals very flat, rounded point on one end and rounded piece cut out on the other end. A circular deal with two mounting holes id say a 16th of an inch thick??

I read the Instructions and the comments and not really sure how these two pieces of the puzzle fit
