Air pump system is blowing my fuse

My 97 Z28 overheated recently, I found that the fuse was blown to the cooling fan, and it keeps blowing just when I start the engine cold. I can see the AIR Pump uses the same fuse, so I'm tempted to remove the AIR relay, and run without the AIR system. Will that give me a problem? I'm not thinking about emissions, I'm thinking about drivability, longevity, power etc.

Thanks

If I were you, I'd completely remove the AIR system. As long as there is a good fuse in the system, the PCM won't even know the difference. Just remember to remove all the lines and plug the holes left in the manifolds/headers (M18 for OBDII, M22 for OBDI cars) and the hole left in the intake ducting (plug with a 5/8" vacuum cap).

The metal line that runs under the timing cover can be a bit of trouble, so you might need to cut it in a few places to completely remove it.

Good luck!

that means the pump is usually seized(due to water) , causeing the fuse to blow rather common
