air pump resistor

Had a few fast questions, I did a search and I cant seem to understand what everyone is talking about with this bypassin the air pump with a resistor trick. I'm not spending 250 bucks for programming right now so I just want a quick fix.

Air pump is out, tubes, everything but the relay for the air pump and fuse. I'm going to use a 100 ohm 10 watt resistor. I know I have to use the brown wire thats under the relay box which is connector to the plugs for the air pump relay.

Here's the question, do I just cut that brown wire anywhere I want to and solder in the resistor??? Can I just use butt connectors instead of soldering??

Thanks for the help!

Re: air pump resistor

for the cost of a programming cable and 1 click you can program it out with Tuner just my 2 pennies.. Or with just the flash programmer from Tuner and a cable you could download the BIN from your PCM e-mail it to me and i will delete the air pump and email it back. Free of charge.

Re: air pump resistor

Sounds like a great plan but I don't have an OBD1 PCM. I have to get it insected by the next cople of days (I like to wait till the last minute).

Anyone else can chime in whenever they want to!

944v8inDFW: Thank you for the offer too, I'll keep in touch with you. I have a 306 I need to put in and I'll have a lot of question for ya.

Re: air pump resistor

Don't cut anything. Put your resistor in the harness plug for the AIR pump was. That will tell you if it is going to work without hacking up your wiring.

Re: air pump resistor

stupid question but how do you know which connector to plug it into. theres three holes for the one plug that goes directly to the air pump. so far i put the resistor into the outer to holes. cant really tell the color of the wires but theres a black, and two other red looking colors. might be brown and red.

help me out here guys, i need it! thank you so much for the help too be the way!
