air pump removal
air pump removal
If you have seen my posts the last few days you know I had a smooth header install go to hell thanks to me not getting my egr block off plates I ordered, but I've got all that straightened out and was wondering, can I still pull the air pump even though the egr is still there? and what all is involved in pulling the air pump, plus what size plugs do I need for the Air fittings on the headers?
Re: air pump removal
I just pulled it off along with all the brackets and other junk. I capped off the plug from the wiring harness and used M15(?) drain plugs in the headers. I still had the EGR on mine for quite some time and just recently blocked off the EGR when I did my cam. Hope this helps.
Re: air pump removal
yea i'm pretty sure the AIR and EGR are completly different, I ripped mine off when I did headers last week, I as well went through hell with my install, read this though it helped me get mine off.

Re: air pump removal
This may seem stupid but what would happen if I just plug the air injector holes on the headers until this weekend when I can finish pulling the air pump out, would it mess with the car at all ?
Re: air pump removal
From what I understand it injects air into your exhaust gases has something to do with emissions not sure what though and i'm pretty sure you have to have it to pass emissions testing, don't know though we don't have it here...... yet
Re: air pump removal
You should just go ahead and disconnect the whole thing, it's not really that hard, I told my friend who has never worked on f-bodies before to reomove it and all of it's componets while I worked on the headers and he did it with no problems, you just need a 5/8 vacumm cap for the intake and and small vacumn cap for where the air pump hooks up to the intake manifold, then you need these caps for the headers, part number 1016:

Re: air pump removal
The AIR pumps air into the exhaust for the first few minutes to heat up the cat(s) sooner.
It may throw an AIR code SES light but you can drive without it. The air pump may just come on and run harmlessly for a bit.
If you have the AIR deleted in your tune
then the SES light won't come on.
I kept my AIR pump with my longtubes but I still haven't been able to get the AIR monitor or catalyst to reset after 3 weeks, but I haven't thrown any AIR or other codes codes..
I have to pass an OBD II scan only for the first time and am allowed 2 monitors not ready so I can do with the AIR and catalyst monitor not ready, as my egr,02 and 02 heater reads ready.
I fooled the PCM for the EGR and have 02 simms as they were cheaper than a new rear 02s.
Of course this is only pertinent if you ever need to pass a scan test.
